This may have been asked before, I’m not sure, the company I work for have just installed trackers into all the lorries, my question is: should we have been given any information other than the fact that they are installed I.e. What will be monitored, how the system works etc
What is the legal obligation of the company towards the drivers or is it a case of a need to know basis. Whilst I myself have no issues it would be interesting to know the laws and rights
Thank you in anticipation

What sort of tracking system is it ?
If it’s a basic tracking system that only tracks your location I don’t really see what there is to tell you apart from the fact that they’ve been installed.
If it’s something like the Isotrack system that can monitor everything apart from your ■■■■■ and communicate with you by sending messages ec’t then there should be some training.
I’ve no idea what the legal implications are but no sensible company would go to the expense of installing costly tracking systems and not train you to use them, so I’m guessing that it’s a basic system that can track your location in which case as I say there’s nothing to tell you about.

Its my understanding that there is a lot to tell you about. If people are going to monitor your movements and collect data on you then they have legal obligations to protect that data, and tell you who it will be shared with. Who it will be shared with will probably need your consent, assuming its other than your employer. Even in this case you would need to agree to share it with your employer.
The employer may say…we are monitoring our truck. If that is the case you should never get a …where are you question? To be honest its all a bit of a minefield, legally. The implications really are vast for both parties.
Regarding the OP’s question, a simple question to the company asking if any information about him or his whereabouts is being monitored or held by the company should give the answer as to where to go next with his query or concerns.
