Does anyone know if the tour trucking outfits use ad-hoc freelancers or some sort of specialist agency during peak times.
I’m led to believe sometimes the distances between gigs and the need to get the set there in a short space of time can lead to double man teams running out of hours.
anyone able to shed any light?

KB Event use freelancers, and they were after drivers last week, Andy Bell is your man @ KB

I was a double driver for 6yrs, if you can drive the truck you are called back to drive again and the main drivers usually sort some bait out for the journey from catering

Its more to do with the person your driving with, some dont like double driving and grumpy at having to share the truck. others dont mind soo much and the rest are happy enough.

Probably am a cack driver, but never been a double driver but just owned the trucks used for this type of work and - of course depending on who you work for - double drivers are, in some circles, treated poorly. I’ve known guys that have been doing it for years and have just got on with it and are quite happy but have also known others who have been treated very badly; hotels not arranged/paid for; transfers not arranged; rest expected to be taken on a train/bus between venues, etc., it all happens and very often is explained away as ‘that’s rock and roll’ - Doh!
But as I mentioned its a job, everyone is different and has different expectations. You’ll get to see Europe at night and plenty of body art!
andy bell at KB event is a complete ■■■■■■ m8,trans am are good m8 good pay and your in an hotel every night not like the main driver who has to sleep in his cab every night,events to go dont expect much work off,you also have domino events doncaster he is always looking for drivers £105 a day,or ypou could try stardes believe me stay away from KB Event unless you like you r cocaine and a bunch of office ■■■ holes
TransAm take on double drivers directly, everything sorted for you, no grief, no aggro, hotels, taxis sorted etc etc. PM Diesel cowboy, he does loads for them.

can’t say i have seen much coke going round KB! and i have been there nearly 2 years. I’m guessing you didn’t get on with the staff looking at that reply. not fair slagging them off though mate. everyone has a bad time very now and then you don’t get personal though
KB have been good to me, fly by nite are usually looking for drivers aswell

I went past on Friday morning 
stage truck use drivers ltd, Southampton, as said some good some bad days, listen very carefully, get a second passport, a good way to see Europe and beyond,
Stage Truck, Larkwhistle Farm Road, Micheldever Station, Hants. Can’t tell you anymore about them.
A friend worked as a supply driver for £160 per day (not to Stage truck I must add). You can be based anywhere in Europe and they fly you to wherever you need to be. However, like as was said before, some guys don’t like being driven (do you like being driven by the mrs?) and the worst critics were Owner Drivers but then you can understand that!
