Waiting to tip at Oxford Botanical Gardens, Rose Lane Oxford; Oxford High Street is in the background, with Merton College to the left of the picture.

The gates are the entrance to Christchurch College grounds. You have to reverse out with 2 banksmen (who the infamous Oxford cyclists ignore).
Muckaway:

G reg Leyland Reiver that was used as a dumper at Stanton Harcourt. Nobody seems to know why this one had such a strange tipper body when compared to other 6 wheelers.
I was talking to one of our plant fitters today, Martin Pratley who’s father Roy used to be Workshop Manager/Foreman (not sure which as Roy served under Godfrey Smith
), and he said these were Leyland Retrievers and not Reivers. Smiths bought 2 of these and they were originally built for Ameys who cancelled the order. The mystery of the odd bodied 6wheeler solved…

V772 GBY (dumper at Dewars’ Farm stone quarry)
Night out tonight, Dave; Quarry shuts at 5, drivers don’t have keys so I’ve brought the lorry home; I’m fortunate that our estate was built in the '60s so the roads and cul de sac opposite are wide enough for it not to cause a problem. There’s a green space right outside our front door but it’s the wrong time of year for that

Ask for your £20 night out money Nathan. At least you will have an extra few minutes in the morning for which you will be paid for.
Cheers Dave.
Hi Nathan, I take it you were on your way back to depot when you passed me at Hopcrofts Holt today? I don’t usually do the Oxford run, and I had wondered if I would see you about.

No I’d just left our soft sand pit at Duns Tew with 10t of mixed sand for Brill. This was the load that made me late, didn’t get away until 4pm then ran out of time on the A40 near Marston flyover and with the traffic, just made it home with about 15mins left.
Been a bumper week, seen you, Jakey and one of NeilBs wagons in the last 2 days

You’ll more likely see me on the M40 at some silly hour these days.

Thames Water Sewer upgrade, bottom of ■■■■■■ Hill, Oxford.

Something a bit different; A collection of Cat loading shovels at Gill Mill. Only the one behind the pump belongs to Smiths, a 972H. The middle one is a demonstrator, 972K (no steering wheel, steered by joystick), and the other is a hired in 966H, currently screening the muck on the tip to make soil and ■■■■■■■■.

Altitude spent time on this rather well presented spare, and the next 6wheeler to go at some point.

Whats the biggest one lift in a bucket at a time Nathan ?
Cheers Dave.
Depends on what the material is, Dave; I’ve known Dylan (drives the 972H) put 10t of 20mm ballast on me in one go
I drove a 970F (similar size) and my record was 11.2t of as dug… I had to shake some off as I was loading a 4wheeler that only carried 10.6
Normally carries round 6.5t of shingle, 7.5t of sand.

I think tho loading shovels this way lift about the same Nathan.I will ask my next door neighbour as he retired as a loader driver at the local quarries last year.
Cheers Dave.

At Buscot Park near Faringdon. (Seat of lord Farringdon, don’t you know
)

Nice clean cab floor, courtesy of Gill Mill hosepipe.
