I seem to do nowt else on here lately but argue on the bloody politics thread, so just to lighten up and get in the Christmas spirit…seeing as I have finished today for over 2 weeks.
So what are ya top 3 Christmas songs…and WHY?
Mine are …
I believe in Father Christmas…Gregg Lake.
Takes me back to when I was a young kid, and Christmas with an old girlfriend, who was an Emerson Lake and Palmer fan, who introduced me to it.
Last Christmas…Wham.
Wasn’t really into Wham, (mainly because I was not a young screaming girl but liked George Michael’s solo stuff.) but it takes me back to the Christmas spent with a fit young gorgeous blonde Dutch model girl I met…who I ended up marrying ,
I played it ever since on Christmas mornings to the kids.
3.Stay another day East 17.
Not really a Christmas song, but it was a Christmas no 1 in 1994.
Reminds me of Christmases when my eldest 2 were little coming away with me in the truck…when the 3 of us always sang it together… complete with E17 baseball caps
I played Bass many moons ago on an Eagles song ‘Please come home for Christmas’ in a virtual band with some talented guys off a guitar forum from the USA, Australia & Canada.
I’m the white haired chap.
Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to all at Trucknet UK.
@lancpudn Yeah I remember you once showed me a performance of you and your mates…I was well impressed.
Always regretted not learning the guitar, I could see myself writhing around a stage like Slaash from Guns and Roses.
(Weird spelling of Slas h btw, because of the 'kin ridiculous censorship on this site.
I always liked Greg Lake’s “I believe in Father Xmas” but when you listen to the lyrics it’s more of an anti-Xmas song.
Working in a well-known record shop for several years killed any notion of Xmas being fun, it was just intense work from mid-october. Worst of all was the company insisting that only one album could be played in the shop from 1st November onwards, “Now that’s what I call Xmas”. Consequently I have hated Xmas songs since then.
Going back to Greg Lake, I was very pleasantly surprised to find my local Tesco playing a spot of classical recently: Prokofiev’s Troika from the Lieutenant Kije suite, which everyone will instantly recognise from “I believe in Father Xmas”
Yeah it is, it was a comment on how commercialised Christmas had become. .
Apparentlly that was his reason for releasing it but nobody noticed
So they cashed in by making the video for it.
And yeah it is based around a classical piece of music
As soon as I hear it it’s Christnas for me.
But I dont tell the wife why I like it.
My ‘Street Cred’ is about to go straight through the window here …so got to stress I aint a fan.
Showaddywaddy.
Even the lead singer looks bored.
(I’m even gonna admit to seeing them live here , it was in the 80s, but only because it was an evening all paid for…honest guv )
I heard it on the radio yesterday thinking ,.Wow not heard that for ages.
And tbf it is a good Christmas track.
A bit of a Christmas guilty pleasure.
