Tony Bradfield

Just to let people on here that know, or have met my uncle Tony on their travels over the years, that last week he slipped down from the cab & broke the ball joint that connects the femur to the hip.He is in hospital in Tangier.I have been speaking to him daily & he feels fine apart from the pain.Lucky for him he pays for TRANSMED insurance & they will bring him home & pay for me to fly down & bring the lorry back, flight booked for Saturday night,Heathrow to Tangier. While i am on here i would like to thank STEVE WITHERS, who works for Davies Turner in Morocco, for sorting out the hospital & visiting Tony everyday since he went into hospital last Friday. So if you see the silver Daf heading north towards the UK next week, its not Tony,so don’t be offened if i am a bit slow in flashing back.

Will Bradfield.

Hope Tony gets well soon! Have not seen Tony in 3 years at least, great to see he is still at it!
If it’s any consolation to him i am currently at home with a double fracture of me left foot after a piece of
staging fell over in the back of me trailer last Wednesday. Wonder if the day time tele in Tangiers is any
better than at home?

I know what you are going through, passenger in my own car August 2006,involved in a fatal collision, both legs smashed & left arm broke + stitches in my head. 23 months sat @ home, does your head in,good to be doing a bit again though even if it is now & then.Tony is not going to like sitting on his backside doing nothing, but its the only way to heal,as i found out. He told me he now knows what sort of pain i went through.
As for the tv,they have lots more channels to choose from than us,but he is not a tv person, but who knows what will happen when he gets home, might be all he has @ first ■■

Hope all goes well for Tony,I have not seen him since we were both were pulling for GBE.

Tony broke the ball off the bone that joins to the hip,the hospital in Tangier fitted a new joint. He was flown home to Swindon hospital last wednesday, had a few tests etc.Now up on crutches & looking good for going home on Thursday,so thing are going in the right direction.I flew down,Heathrow to Tangier last Saturday night, stayed @ the hospital all day on Sunday, picked a trailer up on Monday & headed for Santander for Wednesdays boat to Portsmouth, got off boat Thursday night, tipped & loaded the trailer in London on Friday, dropped trailer @ Davies Turner @ Dartford, then Saturday morning got lorry back to Swindon, washed & polished it for the Guv.Went to the hospital to visit, then drove back to my Suffolk home.I speak to him everyday & he is in good spirits & can’t wait to get back on the road.(As i was dropped @ Heathrow i had no transport of my own @ Swindon,so took Tony’s newly aquired wheels to get home.Nissan Navara Aventura, well he can’t drive it for a while)

Give him my best Will. Having gone through two total hip replacements I am interested in the procedure that has got him back on his feet so quickly. My problem is the bone is like old plaster and just crumbles and there is nothing left to fasten it to. If Tony has an internet connection he can have a laugh at my hospital visits.

Hello Will its ToeTapper here I hope the old moaner is OK I was with him on my last trip to maroc when he had the brake pads replaced the trip before his fall give him my regards and wish him a speedy recovery the sabrano stock will running down when he gets home and take care yourself

Thanks for the message Toe Tapper, now sent home from hospital,Tony is on the mend & in good spirits (not alcoholic ones ) Speak to him everyday,up & walking, with & without crutches, tried the stairs earlier & went well.He has to go back in 1 month for a check up so fingers crossed he will soon be back on the road,i am going to do a trip for him soon, then he wants to ride shotgun on the next.He commented on how clean i had left the Daf,should have seen the state it was in after 11 days parked up in the dusty park in Tanger. He said that the sweat was pouring out of you & Darryl changing the pads in the heat.Might bump into you soon all the best,Will.

Wondered how he was doing .Saw the unit outside his house this week and there was a DT trailer in SW"s yard . . is he raring to go again?

Tony is well on the mend now,i went on a trip with him starting 5/9/10,returning 17/9/10.Picked empty up from DT Manchester, loaded Stoke on Trent, tipped out Lagos Portugal, down to Algeciras, stuck there for the end of ramadam.Got loaded trailer for UK.Tipped out London, back to Swindon empty, dropped trailer @ S W’s yard.We shared the driving & i thought he done well, age & leg (had his 78th while he has been off )problems taken into account.

He loaded in London yesterday on his own & caught the Poole Santander boat this morning,so i am wishing him all the best for the future, told him that if he needs a rest after a trip or two i will help out.He had his yearly medical this week & all was well.Good to see him smiling again,he said it was getting him down sitting @ home, but i know all about that as i had 2 years of that recovering from a serious car crash while being a passenger in my own car,but thats another story.Good luck Unc.
