TomTom Truck Navigation for GO Range on SD Card

Evening Folks,
I have a go TomTom Go720 and was thinking about buying the HGV SD card upgrade for it. I was just wondering if anybody has bought one and what did they think to it? Does the upgrade plan your route around problems such as bridges, narrow roads, weight limits etc etc or does it just give you a warning when your approaching these hazards?
I know you have to treat these systems with a pinch of salt and you cant ever replace the eyeball and HGV atlas, but everybody has one these days!

Any help would be much appreciated, Regards SB

I didn’t know you could buy an SD card to upgrade a Go 720 to Tomtom Truck, still you live and learn

Anyway I’ve got Tomtom Truck on a Go 730 and find it very helpful, you put the size of the vehicle in and it will route you around low bridges ec’t quite successfully.

Basically truck sat-navs will try to route you on primary routes, so you will sometimes know better ways of getting to your destination but on the whole I’d say they’re very good.

Many thanks for the reply.

Looks like i’ll be checking the web for any discount in the sales!

SB

You could save yourself some money by buying the SD card and downloading the map and navcore

Now its getting closer to the January sales i’ve been looking into this a bit closer.

1st Question:
Does the truck navigation software automaticaly route you around hazards or does it just let you know they are on your route?

2nd Question:
If it just lets you know they are on your route does the software alert you when approaching a hazard?

3rd Question:
Can somebody explain about downloading maps and Navcore?

Many thanks & Merry Christmas SB

As said the truck maps will route you away from bridges etc when you have set the height of your vehicle.
You need a 4 gig (no less) sd card then goto navitotal.com (other sites are available) and download the truck map…then the truck navcore and finally fast activator.
put all these onto sd card and insert into the tomtom, switch on and select the truck map. (it will tell you it cant be used at this point)
switch off unit and connect the tomtom to computer and open the dive which has sd card on it (should be 2 drives showing,1 is normal tomtom unit and other is truck on sd card)
find the fast activator and double click on it ,let it do it thing and then you should be sorted.
always make a backup of you unit using windows not tomtom home before you start all this.

Hi Gez,
many thanks for the reply. So far i have a computer, SD Card and card reader. I’ve logged into the Navitotal site and cant seem to get any further. Any chance you could help me a little further? I’m a bit of a computer novice and could do with a totaly basic step by step guide on how to set up my GO720 with Truck Navigation.

Many thanks SB

Hi Folks,
After 3 days of scratching my head and going round in circles i’ve finaly got Truck maps installed on my tomtom go 720. It was all done through Navitotal and also with massive help from Tachograph …without his help my tomtom would be dead! :open_mouth:

I was led to believe that truck maps would automatically route you round hazards such as weight restrictions, tight turns and low bridges? After downloading this map it seems no different to Western Europe? After doing a quick route check from my house it takes me down the most narrow street in town that is restricted to HGV’s?

Is this normal?

Many thanks to all who have helped me SB

You’ve got the truck map working then ?

If you’ve chosen truck when setting the route and put the vehicle details into the devise it should route you round obstacles such as low bridges ec’t, if it’s not then it’s likely that the truck map isn’t working after-all

Have you set the vehicle details as truck and put in the height weight ec’t ?

Hi mate,
Looks like its not working. After running fast activate it came up with an error saying tt system missing. I tried the sd card to see if it did anything, it almost started truck maps then crashed. Had to spend the next hour or so restoring it and now back to square one!
I cleaned the sd card off and copied Europe truck and the navcore over and that’s it so far.
Just wondering what to do next?

  1. Extract the navcore and ttsystem files to the card then reboot the devise.

  2. Put the map and FastActivate on the card.

  3. Use FastActivate.

  4. pray

Im trying to do this to my tom tom as well, however my biggest problem is downloading, its saying its going to take 2 days for each part to download! Where i live, broadband isnt very fast at all, thats when it works. So was wondering if someone could copy the necessary files to a dvd or a few cd’s (postage, other costs etc i will cover) and post them to me?

You don’t need the western map just the truck map.

hi

have been trying to do this to my tom tom for about a week now with no luck at all. part of my problem is that the 4gb sd card i got isnt recognised by the tom tom (though works fine when put in a card reader). only sd card tom tom recognises is its original card, which is useless for this as its only 128mb.
I am completely lost as to what to do with it, and navitotal dont seem to help (ive read up as much as i can find but to me its really confusing), so if i could send my tom tom to someone who can install tom tom truck maps and navcore onto a tt go710 i would be very greatful!

Stick at it mate. I spent weeks trying to sort it out and with loads of help from tachograpgh i managed it.

Must admit it did my head in! :unamused:

got there in the end. was a bit more involved as im using a mac computer, and all their stuff is for windows pc’s so i had to use a few extra bits of software to make it all work. glad ive done it though.

  well done you
