Toll roads

First time that I have had to use Dunham bridge today, made me chuckle how you get a warning of the toll a couple of miles before hand. just read some of the old posts about it… its even got its own website

Are there any other sneaky little tolls about ?

I used to go over the old bridge years ago, the only currency I ever used was old gentlemans mags

H.

Swinford toll bridge Eynsham near Oxford .last time I used it was 10p per axle

There is a toll bridge on the A57 just as you leave Saxilby, only costs 40p though. When I did some work for Allied Bakeries I used to use it to get to Retford, there was an old chap who used to be always asleep when I got there.

Oh. Reading comprehension FTL.

You are young, but you will learn grasshopper.

There’s the Warburton toll bridge near Lymm but I think it’s a 7.5 tonne limit.

That one is 3t, not even 3.5, strictly 3t and it’s covered by CCTV.

12p to cross

Used to cross this bridge on the way to the caravan in Skegness. We were approaching it once and I asked the wife to get some change out for the toll bridge. My daughter was about 5 at the time, she suddenly stopped being her usual chatterbox and went really quiet. I looked at her in the rear view mirror, and she looked really upset. When I asked her what was wrong, she burst into tears and said she didn’t want to go over the TROLL BRIDGE in case the TROLL got us !!
Still makes me smile, and she is 37 now

Brilliant lol

That’s funny.

Selby toll bridge was a funny one, 6p per tonne to cross, had a few arguements with the toll collector re weights, managed to get “banned” twice.

I was driving a two axle bread lorry.

Two tolls I remember from years gone by.

Hay on Wye, bridge off of the A438 at Whitney on Wye.
and
Porthmadog, A487 just before the straight beside the old railway, first time I got there I was wondering why there was an old bloke sat in the middle of the road on a plastic garden chair

I’ve never used the M6 toll always wanted to try it when it first opened but, meh.

There is a toll bridge between Bathampton and Batheaston, which cuts out the trip through Bath, going from the A46 to the A36 (M4 to the south coast or vis versa), but it’s single lane, and has a 3ton weight limit.

I remember going to this bridge years ago on a 7.5 t and I was nearly out of time. I drove straight past the toll collector, who was screaming “I’ve got your reg number!” Heard SFA afterwards.

I think that the recently rebuilt bridge at Whitchurch across the Thames is still a toll bridge, weight limited anyway I believe?

Pete.

All roads should be free to use…!
