TNUK vacancies section

Just had a shufty. It’s a bit sparse on vacancies :exclamation: is it always like this or do you need to join up some way? confused.

Doubt anyone dare post a vacancy.

All jobs seem to get shot down in flames, especially if they’re agency.

“Ongoingly”

I noticed this too. Last week I thought I’d browse the vacancies section. So I went to the kitchen, brewed a big pot of tea, found a pad and pen so I could jot down the vacancies I was interested in, and made myself comfortable. I then poured a cup of tea, clicked on the vacancy board, and there were exactly no jobs.

This ^

I’ve posted motorsport related jobs in the past, just ends up as pages of pointless negative comments, so I don’t bother now. :frowning:

Hi mardybum,

That’s a fair point, but…

:bulb: The reason that most jobs “get shot down in flames” is because the poster simply hasn’t bothered to read the info on the main forum index page and the sticky topic regarding the use of that forum.

Agencies are a business (quite rightly) looking to make money, so that means they have to speculate to accumulate like any other business.

You’ll probably have noticed that TN doesn’t charge anybody for membership, and that it’s therefore free for everybody to use.

However, given that it still needs to pay its way, we achieve this by charging advertisers and offering sponsorship of the various forums.

In the way that everybody has a boss (somewhere!) TN is a cost centre to its owners (DVV Media International) and as such has revenue targets set by them that it has to meet.

We’re glad of this arrangement because, as we speak, there is some I.T. maintenance work going on behind the scenes.

Would it be a good idea if “Jobs” got re-labelled as “Shifts”, with actual jobs being now called contracts for tender in the future?

Eg.

Agency: “Wanted: Shift workers starting 18:00-21:00 Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays - immediate starts. Pay rates £14-£18ph Phone ■■■ xxxx”
Firm’s Job Ad: “Wanted Monday-Friday workers starting @ 14:00 or 02:00 (week about) Immediate starts 10 hour shifts, Salary £29,500”
Third Party Job Ad: “Our Client wants 2 full timers, one starting 14:00, the other starting 02:00 to work week-about, and also 40 other drivers on an odd-shift basis by their in-house agency”.

All we need is a whole lot more HONESTY in our adverts hmm? :bulb:

I’m not sure that’s what Mardybum meant by being shot down, and its definitely not what I meant.

Sadly too many people just want to knock anything, (its not just a Trucknet problem, seems to pervade the Interest comments sections) as I said I’ve put on some jobs, mostly motorsport related, I also understand that the jobs aren’t for everybody, but its just information in case somebody is interested and all that happens is you get pages of crap posted, mostly ill informed, how they wouldn’t bother, how you get treated, etc,so I just don’t bother anymore.

Apologies if I’ve misunderstood.

On this point, I’d say that… if you post a job in the main PDF forum, it’s open to being commented on as posters see fit. At this point, I then completely agree with you that it gets ripped to bits in true TN style and I wholeheartedly share your frustration with that.

I don’t mean to be harsh here, but we both know that anything posted in the main forum can legitimately be trashed by those with little or no knowledge of your very specialised part of the transport industry.

If you were to post: ‘There’s a job going at our place etc’ as intended by TN’s owners, then post that in the ‘read only’ jobs forum, then it’s not subject to dissection/comment/criticism/jibes by those only seeking cheap entertainment and with nothing else better to do.

Thanks Dave, I didn’t know that about the Vacancies section.

I know the main forum can be “Harsh” although I would have used other words like Childish and pathetic, I can deal with harsh comments, criticism and lively debate, Bullet did a bit for F1 and hated it and he posted that from a position of knowledge, so that was fair enough, but I really can’t be bothered with the idiots, trolls and those who are making up for their inadequate lives by being Mr Big from behind the keyboard, they’re the same ones I used to try and ignore in waiting rooms in my general haulage days.

I also know there is bugger all you can do about them, so I hope you weren’t thinking it was a complaint about the management of the forum, I tend to ignore them most days now, just one of the joys of internet comments sections.

You’re quite right muckles, I’ve long advocated that we all simply ignore the trolls and other disruptive n’er do wells that turn up now and again.

They find that TN’s ethos isn’t for them, then they turn their attention to other social media that allows their antics.
After that it’s win-win for everybody.
