Tipper Driving

nyk473l:
Specially built trailer for the delivery of burnt sand for roof tiles for Marley. Had to load under a low hopper and tip in a high bin, hence the scow end.

I know they are not tipper pics but I thought they would sit nice here :sunglasses:

Can I interest you in one of these ■■ :sunglasses:

Got a few more to go on in time :sunglasses:

I will take any of the Tilcon ones please! Non are from this area, probably Swinden or Skipton Rock based trucks. I never did any work from any ARC quarries, apart from collecting 6mm granite from either Judkins at Nuneaton or Edwin Richards quarry in the West Midlands back to Ballidon when Tilcons Mancetter quarry (our usual source) couldn’t supply, but they always seemed to have a tidy fleet, and that livery suited them nicely.

Pete.

UWA 428Y was driven from new by Dave ‘Pup’ Robinson from Hartington, Derbys. He and his dad George, who drove a Sed Ak 200 series for Tilcon, had previously driven for Geoff Grimshaw of Hartington and when he folded Tilcon bought the trucks and drivers. The Foden had the Gardner 230 Turbo, only one we had. Later Dennis Bond purchased it as an O/D when Tilcon offered the driver’s the chance to buy a lorry and go it alone.

We had a 300 series Sed Ak as well but that isn’t it in the pic, Johnny Mellor from Hulme End (another ex Grimshaws driver) had it from new but it was the only six wheeler we ran at that time. International turbo engine, six speed ZF box and pretty reliable it was eventually sold and John had a Foden eight legger then.

The only other Ballidon wagon there is the Sed Ak 400 of Steve Skinner (Red Shadow) and had a bunk fitted for distance work, again Steve went as an O/D buying Foden RDT 760 X which was an ex Mancetter quarry truck driven from new by Keith Lewis.

Yes Scamm when they had Bulk Freight they also got a very big house in with the deal, I know because the crowd I worked for rewired it. I did some work at Bulks garage n also George Varney at Watford Gap. As you know they were big in refuse shifting same as Bull which would make sense if they did take them over. Keep them pics coming they’re a tipper mans delight
