Is it just me? Been like it on and off for the past week and it’s getting worse. I’m getting the rest of the interweb fine and sites loading in a second or so, but this forum is bolloxed and either takes 20+ secs to load or just 404s.
Also, when quoting or replying to posts, when I press the relevant button, it often hangs and then redirects me to roadtransport.com/drivers/ . WTF is all that about? It’s done it about a dozen times now over the past week, but only seems to do it when the site is running ultra slow.
Browser: Opera 10.50 (but does it with Chrome and FF as well, even slower)
ISP: BeThere (part of O2 network)
It’s not just you Rob, cos it’s exactly the same here.
My browser is Safari, and my ISP is Virgin but I’ve no idea whether there’s a ‘proper’ fault.
I’ve also tried IE8 and Firefox, but changing browser seems to make no difference.
Rob, we have monitored the CPU and RAM usage of the server for over 24 hours, neither has come near to peak usage, we cant find anything this end for a slow down, However we have found a router on the network that occassionally is timing out, obviously as it is a network router it is out of our control but we have attempted to contact the provider to point out there is a problem. Can i suggest if this keeps happening that you tracert to see where the blockage is and then request your ISP reroutes its network to avoid the problem, its not something we can do from this end.

Site has been timing out again today. As you have identified that the problem is at your end then it’s up to you/rbi to fix it. Asking members to phone their ISP and tell them to reroute their network is unbelievable. And as already mentioned, every other site I frequent works just fine so there are no network routing problems with my ISP.
As this has been an ongoing issue for the best part of 12 months now on and off (see other posts in this forum for evidence) then I think it is high time you ditched your ■■■■-pot host and paid for some quality hosting (which of course can be arranged if you would like to PM me some stats and current costs).
Guess you have a bit of a problem reading… the only issue we have identified is a router problem, this is on the network that your ISP is signed up to, we have no control over that. I know that you realise how ISP’s work and are more than aware that individual websites cannot have any say in how ISP’s route their traffic, so at a loss how you think we can affect anything.
However if you want to post a price for a dedicated 2 terrabyte line with front facing server and two distanced mirrored servers as back up, plus unlimited developer time then please do…
Site is completely BOLLOXED yet again. Taking well over a minute to even think about loading any content. Presumably you’re using 1and1 or some other two-bit back-bedroom hosting company.

Been bad for me too, and that’s with a connection that typically gives me 37 - 38 Meg download speed. Not having any problems with any other site I use.
It goes through phases, and they’ve been getting much more frequent of late. Yesterday and up until mid afternoon today have been really bad with the pages taking well over 30 seconds to load, but at the moment it’s running okay.
The question is what is Rikki going to do about it? Or is simply ignoring the thread and PMs sent 3 days ago the answer?

I did get your PM and have discussed it with various people I will reply when I have the definative answer to what we are doing regarding hosting and servers.
As for what are we doing about it?
There was an issue with the database over the last couple of days which has now been addressed, a longer term strategy to cope with such issues is also being formulated.
There was another concurrent issue which was causing pages to “hang”. Some of the ad banners are supplied and hosted on an ad agencies server which was having problems. that also has now hopefully been addressed
Network router issues which has been an occassional problem in the past as you well know is not something we can instantly deal with. especially when it only happens to certain ISP’s and we cant replicate the route and dont get sent tracerts.
Wheel Nut:
Is there a problem with this site again, mine has been running a tad slow today yet other sites are flying along.
I only used this link as I remembered it, not to stir up a load of hornets again… Rob
YES. It’s been HORRENDOUS today since about 10am. It’s about time RIKKI sorted this BS out instead of making excuses that it’s out of his hands blah blah blah. He promised to sort it end of summer last year in one of the other topics on this but [zb] all has been done and nothing more was heard from him.
There are a number of things that are happening to resolve this, the redesign should help a bit, and hopefully soon after we will be moving to a different server farm. but these do not happen quickly so please bear with us … we are on it.

You were saying that back in August last year. So the bottom line is “tough [zb] and deal with it” then.
We think we have put in place a fix to resolve this for now, the long term fix will be the move to a more stable and less prone to DOS attack server farm

You thought wrong then because it’s still taking way longer than it should to load pages. 5-10 seconds of hang = something broken or oversubscribed crappy host.
