I have searched the internet, vets websites and friends thoughts.
What are your thoughts on castrating our dog?
3 years old in May, no health problems but has an attitude with bigger male dogs. I don’t think it is fear, just brave.
Her indoors thinks it will prevent him getting prostrate and testicular cancer. I am not convinced and prefer to leave him intact. What are the numbers involved in dogs getting these types of cancer? 1 in 100, 1 in 1000, or 1 in a 1000,000?
I think it is too late, not worth the risk and it won’t cure him being bolshy. He is lovely with people and small children.

What would you suggest?
I`ve got a few mates like this, try to keep him off the Stella
Dogs can be teretorial to property & their keepers, the cure for this is socializing them- maybe take him to your local dog training classes for total begginers basic obedience once a week, this also covers socializing them as well. And it dosen’t cost a lot either!! I used to take mine & compete intermediate obedience with a Parsons jack Russel, Doberman, & Giant Shnauzer, had great fun & the dogs loved it & learnt to socialize well
I have know people have their dogs castrated & it has made no difference to their behaviour, & infact some have gone quite an unhealthy size pilling on weight as does the pocket of the vet who just been paid for doing the job

Do it. How the [zb] would you like to spend your whole life in a state of perpetual ■■■■■■ frustration with no means of relieving it? Seriously.
Well I am 54 now and I never had that choice
He is going in on Tuesday morning. 08.30, poor bugger
Well, it’s your choice wether your dog has it’s nuts snipped poor bugger
I dont want him doing. I was hoping for support from here. I did get some.
He is a lovely natured little westie, great with children and adults, unless you go near his food with feet, you can take anything from him with your hand though, bones, biscuits, toys or food. We can only think he has been kicked as a puppy, but we got him at 10 weeks so that chance is slim.
As I said he is small, but the vet has weighed him and he said most westies are overweight. Radley hasn’t grown much at all but he does have a bit of fat on his back.
Arrr he’s cute just like my brothers westie. My brov on his mrs’s instructions had their dog ‘snipped’, & he being a terrier, as terriers are, like to be boss anyway eventhough he’s two stones lighter didn’t make any difference at all to his behaviour & still reguarly likes to kill everything on telly including the TV (which is now placed about two foot higher on the wall) , as well as seeing every other dog OFF. Well, as a family pet he’s a great great charachter as most scotts are they have never taken him to socialize or to training, that was their decision, & now being a bit older at 7yrs I think & dispite being lively does need to shed a pound or two!! . He has been prone to weight gain all along so when I visit I give a hint or two
Terriers being working dogs need ‘Plenty’ of exercise, good diet & Firm Training . You will have loads of fun with a terrier, & they make great companions. They are not not your ‘little oldies lap dogs’ though, you’d never want for a better companion than a terrier, great dogs
i inherited my dads dog when he passed away unexpectdly a jack russell my mam couldnt cope with him as was too lively , anyway after having him a few weeks checked the protein in food my mum had given us for him it was high protein food and basicly the poor little chap was always high it was acting like speed for him , changed his diet and was instant almost hes now 9 yrs on a very happy chap still lively as all jacks are but controllable now thing is terriers dont need high protein diet if not working they have enough energy like little duracell batteries
and +1 hes a real cutie , i bet he does that little wave that westies always seem to do to get attention too

How long is a piece of string!! , or toss a coin!!, every animal or person dies of something,& at a variety of different ages too. As long as he has a healthy diet, good proper food (not this tinned rubbish or cheap biscutes)no nibbles/snacks , & water & Plenty of regular exercise - (good practise for the next london marathon eh!!), he should live as good life expectancy as anything else
Nature made him with nuts, so they are supposed to be there, he’s healthy so why alter him. Why make a problem if there isn’t one & at ‘cost’
if you want a human example, having the snip stopped my ■■■ drive right in its tracks. i used to get a hard on every morning at 6am now… never happens apart from the bedroom.

sometimes even then i can take it or leave it
i wish i had never had it done.
There we are …living proof , that some things are best left how nature intended
I do a lot of volunteer work with rescue - in my case specifically with Great Danes now, but I’ve been in general rescue in the past - and if I had a penny for every litter that comes about by accident, I’d be a rich woman indeed. This all adds up to canine overpopulation, which in turn leads to people like me having to deal with the mess that’s left behind as a result. If you could see just some of what I’ve seen, you’d soon change your mind, Malc. Just the simple number of perfectly healthy dogs killed in council pounds every single day - and the numbers run into thousands, make no mistake, every single day - should be enough to persuade any sane person to neuter any animal they do not intend to breed with, and any owner who breeds without having full health testing done on both sides of the mating, and pre-vetted homes lined up for the resultant offspring to go to.
Make no mistake, I’m not anti-breeding by any means, my best friend is a highly professional gundog breeder who operates as all good breeders should. But that’s a world away from yet more scruffy little mutts coming into this world because Fido got out, or whatever. That’s just increasing the death toll for no reason. The neutering of pet dogs isn’t cheap, but it’s part of responsible pet ownership, and if those who can’t afford it should seriously consider whether they shouldown the dog at all.
my sisters runs a pets charity, and she too believes all owners should have thier pets done , i had my dog alfie from a rescue centre , cross golden retriever/ irish wolfhound, he was mega gorgeous real handsome dog. i had him done, and it did help to calm his ■■■■■■ frustrations down. Infact it stopped 6 months after, he was a massive dog and a relief that i could trust him not to jump up kids etc… because he was perfect in everyother way
we walked the wrekin three times a week and we walked ■■■■■■■■ way together, hergest ridge all of it , the dales, took him to snodownia walking and he loved it, yorkshire dales , i took him everywhere as he really did need the excersie. he was like a mini horse.
he made friends with a little westie on our local walk, and they used to play together , little westie was real cute ,
My sister to tells me of the sadness at not been able to rehome lovely animals, and she feels strongly that we have a duty of care to them, she would keep everyone is she could is a real animal lover, Alfie did hit my pocket in having him done 170.00 of it, because he was such a big dog… but i did feel it helped him must have been awful at times me shouting get down all the time , when all he was doing was what came natural , poor thing lol
