Thinking off moving to spain what do hgv class1 drivers earn

serious question thanks

Mate of mine lives near Alicante & there is no work, if there was you need to speak Spanish. So the answer to your question is- £0
I also understand that there’s not much trade/Industry down that way so there’s not many wagons hauling down to Spain just Fruit & Veg coming back our way.
Whenever I’ve been over to see him for a few days I hav’nt noticed too many wagons driving around Benidorm/Alicante area, can’t comment on anywhere else though.

A couple of guys (drivers) I’m working with have recently moved back to the UK after being hit badly be the recession over there. Both are Brits but hold Spanish driving licences.
A few other friends who are Spanish & Portuguese nationals are struggling to survive, work massive hours for around €800 a month take home

WBIS will tell you what it’s like down there so will vas, stay where you are,you will see a lot of Spanish trls hauled by Eastern Europeans, seen it with my own eyes.

Your better off staying put.

26% unemployment should be enough to put anyone off moving there except the over-65s!

Company called Sertrans,Spanish…but all the motors going in and out of Nissan Sunderland are all East European regestered, and there is lots of them

Move to Bulgaria, according to the doom an gloom mob on trucknet the Bulgarians are all coming for our jobs so there be plenty work there

The situation regarding work here is extremely bad, even some of those in work quite often will not get paid as their empolyers cant afford to pay wages - a very good friend of mine hasnt been paid properly for nearly two years.

The only realistic way of finding a job is by knowing someone who can put a word in the right ear for you, so unless you have contacts in Spain and speak Spanish that is unlikely to happen.

As to wages fridge drivers on euro work earn between 2200 and 2700 euros per month net, general euro work is less, national work is around 1600 1800 on a good firm.

Lived in two Mediterranean countries recently.

Chances of getting a job is going to be the far side of zero because the locals look after their own first especially when things are tough.

In those countries, immigrants are somewhat down the list - also you would need to be pretty fluent in the lingo.

Having said that, I do know of two truckers in Spain who were Brit expats - one subbied and the other worked for a UK outfit who did groupage down and onions, satsumas etc from packhouses back. But these two weren’t employed locally they chose to live at that end of the job instead of the UK.

Maybe that would work out for you but this was 10 yrs ago so I guess stuff would have changed since then.

Anyway all the best whatever you decide.

One last tip, if I may - rent out there, don’t buy, rents will be reasonable. Then if it doesn’t work out just come on home.

I live here in Valencia & as Hombre has said forget it (well not exactly his words)

dont bother.crap wages and trucks.healthcare about 70 euros a week,no pension included t
thats extra.25% unemployment.only good thing is weather.stick to just going for holidays.also you will have to change over your licence which requires a spanish address, also you will have to take a proficiency test both written in spanish and a practical test, not worth it mate for about 8 euros an hour gross.

thanks for the comments guys

If working here on a contract (means legally) you will be paying into the Spanish Social, this means that you will be issued with a health card to access the system which is very good.
15 years of paying into the system is enough for the state pension, its 30 years in the UK.
A UK photo licence is valied throughout Europe & there is no need to change it until the 10 year photo change is due, or a HGV medical is due which here is about 40euro’s.
