Thief, Wetherby Services Friday 14th Feb

How did the phone get stolen or was it left, I know where my phone is all the time.

Roymondo:
… all the indications are our thief is from foreign shores anyway …

Are they? What indications have you seen that he’s not as British as me or (presumably) you?

I spotted his picture on a friend of mine’s Facebook who has never even heard of Trucknet, word travels fast!

Keep us updated, there can only be so many Magnums in the services at that time, if the CCTV is any good, hopefully won’t be long before he is caught.

PS He looks like a Brit to me.

I’ve had another look at the photo … I definitely can’t see “I am a foreigner” tatooed on his forehead or anything.

OK - Perhaps not all of them. But a LHD Magnum is much more likely to be operated (and driven) by a foreigner.

Fair point.

he looks like a scouser, seriously, i dont know why but that was the first thing that came into my head when i looked at the picture

If that was the first thought that came into your head keep your thoughts to yourself you weapon :unamused:

Photo needs to show his ears to see if it could be a scouse. They tend to stick out like the FA Cup.

There’s a ANPR System that operates at Wetherby services

Had this on my fb earlier, its an app called lookout and takes a discrete picture if you get the pin wrong 5 times. However, it might be that the bloke tried to find out whos phone it was. If it was me, I’d just hand it in and be done with it, at least the owner would have a chance of finding it.

Exactly, not enough basic info as of yet.
Love the fact the app took a photo without him knowing modern technology eh
Love to know he gets caught now.

by advising the network the phone and sim can be blocked thus leaving the phone useless to anyone as it locks the phones software this is irreversible even by the network…

Not really. The phone’s IMEI number can be blacklisted, but IMEI numbers can be reprogrammed fairly easily by anyone with the appropriate kit (yes, I know possession of such kit is illegal in this country, but (a) so is Theft - and that didn’t stop him nicking it - and (b) all the indications are our thief is from foreign shores anyway). Besides, the value to the thief is whatever he can sell it for, and it doesn’t actually need to work in order for someone to buy it off him…

well blow me Vodaphone are wrong then and just gave me a phone for no reason then :open_mouth:

wildfire:
if you have a smart phone download a app call prey, you can track the phone and lock it even if sim is changed, also take photo’s of who ever has it, all remotely its a completely free as well, got it on my laptop as well, you can access your account from any computer and activate it :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

these apps are ok …until you forget the password :frowning: I had something similar on a nokia e71 , when I upgraded to a i.phone I put it into a drawer (just in case ?) . however when I needed to use it ,some time later I had forgotten the ■■■■ password  . its back in the drawer

It may not be LHD, front facing cameras tend to take a mirror image. In other words, the photo is the opposite way to what it is

Not in my experience - the on-screen “viewfinder” may well be shown as a mirror image because it’s more natural to see yourself that way. But the image is actually recorded and stored the right way around.

Just installed the app and tried it, yes you are correct.

At least I can’t be accused of taking selfies! :grimacing:

That’s a cracking quote coming from someone from leeds ,it’s like the deep south there, your mums ya dad and ya sisters ya wife

Just an update. Police are going this morning to look at CCTV and APNR cameras although as you say if it’s a foreign motor don’t know if they will help. It’s had over 72000 shares on Facebook already.

Rather than kicking off about old fashioned stereotypical boring rubbish I find it far better to ignore it and crack on

Back on topic,
I had that sort of software on a Sony tablet I bought about three or four years ago it was packaged with the anti-virus (Norton I think) though its not a choice I would used on my pc it worked very well on the android tablet and even emailed the map coordinates along with the picture and shown it on Google maps.
Great bit of software even then :sunglasses:

Without wishing to belittle the theft of someone’s phone, it seems odd that the police are so interested. My experience when my house was broken into and all my guitars nicked was that they felt the whole thing was my fault for having too much valuable stuff.

Saw this on FB too, hope the theiving scumbag can be identified.
