I did find something a while ago saying that the two tests would be charged seperately and if one was failed then only the failed one would need to be retaken but I cannot find the link to it
Fees for theory are going to be - £35 for the multiple choice and £15 for the HPT.
Or that was the last info I had - indicating that they are now two different tests.
Hi all
just booked my theory and HP today online
Fees for theory are - £35 for the multiple choice and £15 for the HPT.
You have to book them as seperate tests, one is not included with the other when booking so if you want same day for both its best to ring and speak with them.
Good luck to both on the theory and HPT
Clairabel I take it you have your licence back pleased for you
Good luck on your theory + hp tests.
Is it also true that the practical test is changing in September?

I think the only change to the paractical test for cat C is a the introduction of Eco safe driving, which if you don’t drive according to what the DSA want they wil give you a leaflet advising you how to - it will not be a matter for failure of the test - at present!
The Bus/Coach test changes to encompass the driver CPC this september, but is September 2009 for Cat C and CE.

The C test may be extended from a minimum 50 minute road drive to a minimum 60 minute road drive so that the total test time matches that of the C+E which has the un/couple.
The increase in on road driving for catC is supposed to come in on 10th September 2008, but having spoken to a few examiners they don’t know quite how that will work as they will still be using the same test routes. Unless there is a quick re-shuffle/re-jig of routes, there doesn’t seem much chance of any difference from what we have now.
Personally I can’t see there being two sets of test routes.

As the examiners can do what they like and do not have to stick to set routes then they could add 10 mins on quite easily to a drive
When I asked the DSA, I was told that examiners were supposed to keep to test routes and only deviate for road conditions or if a candidate took a wrong turn, and then they were supposed to return to the route as soon as practical. So I am of the understanding that there would have to be two sets of routes as a consequence of the proposed change.
Is the car exam changing aswell? My g/f is going for her A license and thats changing in october! Whats it all for? More money or better drivers?

Written on the bottom of every test route…
Please note that any route is subject to alteration at the discretion of the examiner
Any change in the DSA tests is to improve road safety and the skill of drivers. That is all!
I am not aware of any change to the cat B test, but Rog may know different. The Cat A test has been changed to test riders skills of control, but using off road courses for safety - or so i’m told by a guy who teaches CatA.
From what I understand about the A test it will be far more difficult - many of the instructors have struggled to complete the manoeuvres.
Yeah thats the get out clause Rog - I think they included that after my ‘interest’.
BTW have you noticed that there are no pass rates quoted on the websites now - I have emailed to find out why!

If the pass rates gave the different figures for each class of vehicle and whether they were first time or second time passes etc, then they would be usefull - but unfortunately, they don’t - IMO, that leaves them meaningless.

Hi people, I am new to this forum and wanted to share my experience of the Theory test which i did today. It was 60 questions and 14 Clips, what was quiet remarkable was how i had seen all the clips before on the web and defiantly on the Hazard Perception DVD, i had been lead to believe that the clips on the test were totally different so i was sweating about nothing really. My pass mark was 60 for the multiple choice ( all you have to do is read the official theory test book about 50 times and it sinks in) and 60 for the hazard perception which wasn’t bad i thought seeing as the pass mark is 50 out of a possible 75.
Right now on to booking my driving course…
