Theory Test Question

Had my theory test this morning and passed with 96% and only took 18 mins (I realise I had 2 hours but had to get back to work)

Whilst I was doing my theory test all was going well until question 88 stumped me a little, so I just wanted to throw it out there as I still don’t know if I got the correct answer or not ■■?

You are driving a lorry witch is laden with dangerous goods, what do you also have to carry by law

A. A Tool Kit
B. A Cargo Net
C. A Jack
D. Chocks

My initial thoughts were ‘cargo net’ but as I could not see any purpose to this if the load was liquid I ended up plumping for ‘tool kit’, I know its irrelevant now as it’s all over but just curious as to what the correct answer is.

I do not know 100% but I would go for D as it seems the common sense answer - now I am going to find out …

Miscellaneous equipment

14 Para 8.1.5 refers to “miscellaneous equipment”. The most common problem is in the wording of subparagraph (a) about wheel chocks. Under ADR, the transport unit has to carry at least one suitable chock for each vehicle (which means at least two chocks for articulated lorries and drawbar combinations).

Haha well it certainly stumped me ROG

Well thanks for that I guess I got that one wrong then

A B & C did not make sense so that left D

Deffinitly chocks for an adr load. Have to be carried by law.

A tip for anyone else going for theory be it M/C car LGV PCV etc - if you do not know the answer then use common sense to eliminate the deffo wrong answers

Definitely a tip worth bearing in mind.
And a method that actually bore fruit when one single question stood between me and 100/100 - and yes. purely a pride thing by then of course :unamused:
Incidentally it was a question I had never seen before. It went along the lines of, ‘You are driving through a European tunnel and you see blue line markings on the road. What are they for?’
I dismissed 2 answers pretty much straight away, as per the Rog method, and was left with the choice between something like, ‘Traffic separation distance markers’, and, ‘Emergency safe area markers’. Luckily I plumped for the distance markers and got my 100%.

Whilst on the subject of ‘Tips for the Theory Exam’…
I would say that another is to go with your first instinct (assuming you have done a reasonable amount of study).
And don’t forget that the format of the test very much allows this.
In other words, answer all the ones you know straight off the bat - and any you don’t know, mark them with ‘Flag’.
By the end of your first run through this gives you the advantage of having a rough count of how close you might be to passing or failing, and thus how careful you should be with choosing your next set of answers.
At this point go back and employ Rog’s method to ‘working out’ the answers to any ‘Flag’ questions.
Finally, especially if you think you might be close to a Pass/Fail, go back and review every question - but don’t over-dwell on it. Just make sure you have read what the question actually asks, and not what you wanted it to ask :exclamation:

Good job on the solid pass - don’t sweat the score, it ultimately means very little.
This is the point when you’re getting to the real important stuff… enjoy the training, and go into the test confident - that’s the key

Good luck,
Jon

I had a CPC question about weight distribution which I wasn’t sure about. Four pallets, all equal size, two heavy and two light. 4 options of how to distribute them. Two options where to stack them in two stacks. 3rd was distributed evenly over to the trailer with light over front and rear axles and heavy in middle. 4th was heavy over axles and light in middle. I selected heavy in the middle? Any thoughts?

Can’t seem to win with some of those questions. Some material says down the middle other time says heavy item over rear axle for stability if it is partial load. There might still be a free book PDF safety of loads on vehicles worth getting hold of for reference purposes.
