The worst part of Class 2 Multidrop for a Newbie

EB a chinese six is a three axle rigid with two front axles which steer like an 8wheeler does. Very rare nowadays used to be common on dray work and other handball jobs. I think the last chinese six was an ERF used on hay and straw bales.

26 tonners handle the same until you lift the rear axle, then it becomes fun depending on how big your overhang is.

I’ve worked with blokes who as soon as they’re empty, must raise the rear wheels and then worry if they’ll get around that tight corner in the city centre without wiping out that vehicle on their right. In cities I left the wheels down until out onto A roads and dual carriageways.

You have to watch those sneaky gits who try and squeeze down the side of you when turning. Sit across both lanes, normally gets some vocal responses!

Jump from a lift axle rigid to an 8wheeler and the tail swing becomes nose swing.

Yes many idiots on the road don’t understand the space you require to make a turn. and like you said if you straddle lanes they go mad at you, you cant win lol

That sounds errr, interesting! :open_mouth: - But thanks for the heads up on that, I look forward to having a go!

Farnham town-centre one-way system coming in off the bypass - that’s a classic, especially around rush-hour. Have done it without a Moffie, but have sussed better routes now that I have one on the back.

Now you describe a Chinese 6, I seem to have memories of looking at them and thinking; That’s a bit strange! :open_mouth:

And I learnt a bit of tail swing was today, as I was driving this:

Which is a 26t, 12 speed auto that pulls away in 3rd. I found it tracked different/better when going around roundabout and corners.
But i also found it unpredictably/difficult to conrol while maneuvering/reversing. :imp:
It’s a learning experience!

The tail lift is massive and has a rather complex control box that i had to work out how to use at my second drop! :open_mouth:

And the only bits i understand are put the key in to activate, use the bottom right switch in position 1 to activate the joystick on the left.
Position 2 for the internal cargo area up/down controller, and bugger knows for position 3! :open_mouth:
After that, the rest I’ve no idea…

And while I’ve posted 2 pics, I’ll show the Axle lift control that I’m too afraid to even touch…

Well, I think it’s the axle lift! :open_mouth:

Very nice evil, it’s so big you couldn’t get the whole truck in the pic
Imagine starting out again doing your test in that!

I had one amusing incident while going through roadworks at low speed, to be faced with a woman pretty much screaming “oh ■■■■” as I passed her, as she clearly didn’t have a clue how big her car was!

Well done anyway mate, I’ve been reading but not posting lately  it’s the home, dinner, bed routine that does it lol!

Yeah gotta laugh to yourself in cab at other peoples stupidity, until you drive a truck you don’t realise just how bad some people are.

That moment when you’re stopped by a DVSA Enforcement Officer in your 54 Plate, he asks to see your charts and you hand him all your charts for the last 6 months…

“What? You’re meant to hand them in?”

This happened at my old work several years ago. Amazingly the driver kept his job, but a bigwig from down south was dragged over the coals and 2 managers in our depot transport department strangely found new jobs elsewhere shortly after.

That adjusts the air suspension

Useful if you need to lift or lower the back a few inches to get level on a bay or if you’re on a bit of a slope to enable the taillift to reach the ground.

the switch on the left is the typical marking for raising/ lowering an axle

you are right with the pic involving the air suspension lift, this is the same device I use at work so I will pm you a detailed explanation how to use, if anyone else needs an explanation I shall post on here.

That control box EB is for the suspension. Down arrow to lower the rear of the truck (helpful for pump trucking heavy pallets) up to raise suspension and the up/down arrow lorry symbol is to reset the suspension to it’s standard height.

just post it here mate

I did see your post about raising and lowering your suspension using the handheld control, Right the remote you held in your hand in the suspension control, how do you use it you ask. The top middle button is what you press to turn it on, a green light should glow when the unit is on, next two buttons you have are mem 1 and mem 2 these are used to store current settings, I would not use these as they are not needed. The next button is the pic of a truck in the middle right, if you have adjusted the suspension you press this button to reset the truck back to normal ride height, and as for the up and down buttons you press and hold these to higher/lower the suspension. That is about it other then when you use this make sure you stand a good metre away from the vehicle with the hand brake on, as the vehicle can move up to 12 inches, Hope this helps.

Thats just why i chery pick jobs if i can , i wouldn’t touch any jobs such as brakes brothers , or these data shred jobs as they dont care how u get parked or where in the citys! :sunglasses:

When your wheels are up though, it makes the arse end stick up. Our Scania’s set the height alarms off at the Ardale Centre in Manchester if they go in with the tag raised.

Thanks for that!

The pic you show is different to my truck cab, as I don’t have a control knob like that. (Bad choice of words!)
And while the rear steer can be useful in tight turn, the extra tail swing can be at times not wanted! :imp:
Is there a control that locks/disables it?

I have a switch similar to the one on the right, but i won’t press it unless I know what it does!

The switch on the left you will have. The one of the right is for getting more traction. If the wheels are spinning then hit that switch and it should left the tag just enough so more weight is on the drive axle.

Having the tag up is more fun, especially in London.
