The worst part of Class 2 Multidrop for a Newbie

Evil don’t worry about temp printouts do a few on the way to your first drop and tear the time bit off works a treat

You can put them in your paper cup by the gearstick with the pens and elastic bands all van drivers have those must be standard fit lol :grimacing: :grimacing:

Or better still, " The machines broken in my wagon, it’s 4 degrees pal, I’ve just checked it with my probe. Where do I sign? "

Thanks, but as a Newbie and Agency as well, I don’t deserve pity, it’s a right of passage…

You’ll learn a lot doing the likes of P&H does your agency do Hovis at Chandlers too? That should prove amusing for you

Do you mean brakes? And yes, P&H is an eye opener. :open_mouth:
And as I have to get up for a 5.30 start tomorrow, I’m off to bed.

It’s the freezer printouts that worry me.
Although dragging the cages around is a close second!

I was delivering to P&H in Leeds, 4th day out in an artic, first thing Monday morning, about 5 or 6am, their goods in yard with rucks of their rigids waiting to go out, was bricking it.

Security gave me the all clear to come in, so I jumped in, only to find I’d been sat there on the road so long, I’d lost all my air, so fired her up to build it up again, bloody good job I’d had to…

Whilst I sat there, there was an almighty crash, as about 50 or 60 loaded cages came flying down the ramp, through the barrier and off down the road. Bloody carnage. Oh how I laughed, thank God I was parked upbank!

LOL, that sounds hysterical Paul. I wish you had it on video… I’m guess that someone probably pulled off from the loading bay with the rear shutter open and nothing secured. I bet they just picked everything up, threw it all back in the cages and got on with the deliveries. And to be honest, some of the packages I had to deliver today, looked like the warehouse staff had been playing football with them! :open_mouth:

Anyway after the odd day today, I’m not on P&H for the foreseeable future, as I’ve been lucky enough to be placed somewhere I perceive to be really good. I’m still on multidrop, but each day I’ve no idea where I’m going, or what will be on the pallets I’m delivering… It may be a pallet of turf, a pallet of dog food, or 600 dinner plates to the VodaPhone campus in Newbury (As I did on Friday). So while they’ve got work for me, P&H is a distant and poor second. Sorry P&H!

And on that topic, the Beaver can shove that temp probe up the proverbial backside!
Plus even if I did turn up in my “VAN” & said I’d checked it with a probe. What do I do if they want to check it themselves and I don’t have a probe? :open_mouth:
Extend my middle finger and tell them that it’s accurate to 0.1 of a degree?

P.S. Does anyone know how to reactivate the reversing camera in a 2014 Daf 18 ton rigid (No, I don’t know the model name!) - As when i start her up, it tells me the camera is disabled, but I can’t find where in the dashboard software menu this option is. Saying that, I assume it’s controlled from there, as none of the dash switches seem to be relevant to it…

They are still giving you the best of best vans I see where ever you go evil, it must be an agency thing :grimacing:

26 tonners handle the same until you lift the rear axle, then it becomes fun depending on how big your overhang is.

I’ve worked with blokes who as soon as they’re empty, must raise the rear wheels and then worry if they’ll get around that tight corner in the city centre without wiping out that vehicle on their right. In cities I left the wheels down until out onto A roads and dual carriageways.

I never realised " 26 tonners " were so interesting.
Regards. John.

I passed in a 26 tonner, makes me feel extra special. :sunglasses: :grimacing:

Wow you have to lift the rear axle, seems very interesting and totally different to drive I expect?

Forget the camera Evil, and reverse like a real man :sunglasses:

Saying that, I had a camera in my DPD Van but keep that to yourself

Gotta love the multi drop mate, I’m in the same situation daily and you got it spot on.

He is not a real man, he is on agency, drives a puddle jumper and doesn’t have a class 1 licence :grimacing:

Evil8Beezle:

No, I mean Hovis

Don’t worry about the print outs, if the temp wasn’t low enough I was told to drive around for a while until they were before stopping at the store :open_mouth:

Seeing how things work at back doors in a lot of places will change your shopping habits!!!

No then Vid, and P&H is enough for me thanks!
Yes I got told to drive around as well, but also worried about finishing the shift at midnight!!!

ash 001:
They don’t trust evil in anything biger then a “van” yet don’t panic guy’s

I was in a bloody van today for P&H, a 5 ton Merc! :imp:
Hated it and just wanted my truck back!

Radar19:

Evil8Beezle:

Radar19:
You had a go in a 26 tonner yet?

No mate, just 13 & 18 ton.
To be honest, I would know one if I saw one!

A 26 has two rear axles.

Ahh, I see! - Pretty obvious really… :unamused:
Why do you ask, do they drive much different? :open_mouth:

P.S. Don’t confuse me Muckaway!  What the [zb] is a Chinese Six?

Captain Caveman 76:
Have you had the [zb] take out their phones to film your “lorry” (sorry, after seeing pictures of your dinky toy, I kept writing van!) as you try a tight maneuver? The look of disappointment on their faces when you don’t hit anything is priceless.

Not had any admirers yet, but I’m sure I will at some point. Let’s just hope I don’t end up on Youtube!
And leave my dinky toy DAF alone, i’m starting to get rather attached to her!

I used to hate driving those sprinter vans. Tail-lift deliveries without a tail lift. So had to handball everything off, and no room to move the cages around when empty. It used to take me about twice as long as it was meant to, not that P&H delivery times had any basis in reality anyway.

I only drove a 5 ton VAN for P&H on Saturday, and don’t plan on repeating the experience…
All I was thinking was that I wanted my 18 ton DAF back that I’ve got on my other main job.
Plus lugging those boxes around in a confined space absolutely killed my back, as you have little choice but to band your back and not your knees, which is all wrong!!!

Yes the delivery times are a bit of a joke, and so is the PDA device, as you get there when you get there.
And you can’t do much to change being late if the drop has a delivery window, as to skip a drop, or change the drop order screws up they layout in the back.

But that’s the world of corporate/big companies for you!

If it’s all the same to you mate, I’ll have the camera please! :grimacing:
It’s what’s right up my chuff when I start a reverse that I’m worried about, as if a car is tight up your arse, you haven’t got a chance of seeing it.
So currently I’m doing the walk of shame to double check at present! :unamused:

I did some, er, van and 7.5 ton multidrop work for a company called Smales. They solved the problem of skipped drops putting stuff out of order by chucking everything in the back, leaving the driver to sort it all out when they got there.
Yeah, that was a fun two days!

Nice touch that font size!

Honestly it’s not starting to wear thin at all…
