The perennial problem - job hunting!

Hi,

I don’t have a license yet (currently WIP), but I’m looking ahead to job hunting and finding that elusive first job!

I’m based in Nottinghamshire, and wondered if anyone had any suggestions/recommendations for companies that take newbies, or whether it’s a matter of write to everyone advertising and hope for the best?

Couple of firms near PSTT who take newbies on…think they called Mitchell’s of Mansfield and Taylors Transport of Sutton in Ashfield

Brake Brothers have depots in Newark and slightly further afield in Grantham. They take on new drivers and pay well. Whether it’s the type of work you want is another matter, but multi-drop gave me a good start in the industry

I’m open-minded! While I’d like to drive artics, reality drags me back to earth as it is a job first!

Longer-term, trunk-work would be good. I don’t mind nights. I took a ride with my neighbor a few years ago doing this kind of run (artic) and could see myself doing that kind of work.

Tippers would also be good.

There are Co’s in Notts that take on newbies but most of 'em you wouldn’t want to work for.

You don’t say which part of Nott’s but for a good start I’d be looking at waste recycling, skips, tippers, bin lorries etc. Visit & knock, try to find the MAN & show that you’re willing ready & able.

To get the license, PSTT is very well known & very well respected locally amongst those Co’s who do take on newbies &/or bump up your licenses, it shows you made a good choice at the very start, not because it’s harder to pass with them.

And we like folk who make good choices !

Interesting. Thanks!

I’m in a good place in Nottingham itself with good access to pretty much anywhere.

Hello to all,

I am also new to the forum and new to life. I used to work as a delivery driver before converting to a truck driver.
I am Belgian and I am in England to follow my wife. I have already worked in the transport of Belgian products in Central Europe. I was transporting drinks and food. Does this experience in another country count in the eyes of the employer?

DHL Boots in Beeston definitely take newbies, try Best Connection to get in. You’d need to pass an assesment though. Taylor’s In Mansfield also, although they’re not the best payers, same for Mitchell’s right next door from PSTT. Adina’s recruitment also takes on new drivers

Thanks!

Still waiting on DVLA. Apparently it’s taking up to a month for them to send out paperwork?! :open_mouth:
