So where did they all go, you only ever get a very occasional one turning up on fleabay
The Yorkshireman:
One from LDOY Yorkshire area around 1980. n.b. No elf ‘n’ safety rubbish here, win a driving comp and the prizes were a load of beer.
S&R’s winning team for that year. Photo taken at Montague Burtons Clothing factory in Leeds.
I’m the good looking one on the right.0
, now isn’t that a priceless pic’! That’s 1 that could do with enlarging & putting on a few notice boards nowadays, happy drivers having had a good time & won a few beers to celebrate with Modern day "Management " would be horrified . Also the light personalisation of the wagon with the sun-strip with knick-name/handle on it, even this is frowned on nowadays .

S&R were the best firm I ever worked for and I did 52 years in Transport. I was there for 20 years, most of the drivers were long term men. Drivers were treated well and there was a mutual respect across all departments, Management, Office staff, Workshops and Drivers. Thanks in no small part to the Drivers Committee and the way they operated in conjunction with, as opposed to against, Management.
I retired from driving about 3 years ago, but I was earning far more in comparative wages then, than I was when I packed in 20 years later, and didn’t have half as much interference and regulations to cope with. When I left, we had just been taken over for about the third time, I went around the office to say goodbye and over a cup of coffee the CEO’s personal assistant asked me if I would have been leaving if it was still S&R and the answer was an emphatic NO! I look back on my time there as the best days of my life. Ah well, that’s progress I suppose, onwards and downwards. I feel sorry for all you lads still doing the job.
Health and Safety and red tape has ■■■■■■■ and strangled so many industries now, still I suppose it keeps the lawmakers and pen pushers in a job, talk about an Albatross around your neck.
PARTS BOOK WANTED
I recently bought a parts book for the F7 on fleabay & was feeling pretty lucky. Unfortunately when it arrived it was only one volume, with sections 1-4.
Has anyone out there got a complete book they no longer need, or just sections 5-10?
Alternatively can someone copy the sections for me? Happy to pay all the costs including airmail postage to Oz.
Cheers,
Ron

Volvofh16:
they still have this in the yard and all it needs is a good polish.
I took this pic a couple of months ago, it needs a bit more than a polish these days, it still runs and drives ok but the cab has had it. The floors gone which was a favourite for old F7s and the roof leaks like a t bag
We bought this from Jebsons in Huddersfield and repainted it . On a C plate was probably one of the last ones as I can remember A.One getting the first FL7 on a C plate
I’m having trouble changing from 4th to 5th it keeps going into first ,if I stop and put it into reverse then it will go into 5th and I can drive in the top 4 gears any suggestions what might be the problem.
volvo f6:
don’t know why the diesel tanks on the opposite side to all the other f6 / f7,s
I’ve had 2 f6’s and both had the diesel tank on the n/s
where did you get that one from? it looks like the one I took my test in!
I bought it from a collector in skipton, it was restored some years ago by a guy called colin pitt , but I do believe it was a training vehicle not sure who with ,that probably explains the gearbox problems lol
would be nice to know a little more about it if anybody knows anything.
Thats a tidy old motor, is it an ex- Blagden Packaging?? i remember them running a tidy fleet of Sleeper cab F6 units, in that same shade of blue. Dont recall many people running F6 artics, the only other i remember was Walkers crisps. Nice, somthing a bit different on the show circuit.

volvo f6:
0just bought this Volvo f6 not quite an f7 . Not sure what to do with it iv’e got a lot of ideas but don’t want to spoil it because it’s very original
really tidy looking motor.just show it and enjoy it as it is.very nice!!!
Has it got the 8 speed range change volvof6, if it has it should have a blocker stopping you from going back to 1st when you flip the range to high, also they were very sticky when cold & sometimes had probs going up into high, prob solved when warm. (I`m not a fitter just Driver)
Yes it’s an 8 speed range change I will take it for a good run, it’s not been run a lot so it might be sticking .
If you can find the main air supply into the gearbox and put a few drops of air tool oil into it you might make a big improvement ,worth a try regards Geoff

You can bypass the inhibitor valve by removing the feed air pipe from the inhibitor valve that comes from the right hand side of the chassis and fit it direct to the range change operating piston on the back of the gearbox . You will need to remove the pipe that goes from the inhibitor to the piston first. Also remove the 2 bolts in the back of the piston and remove the alloy cover plate there is a little round gauze filter that gets blocked that sits in the back of the plate.
One other thing you could do , on the top of the gearbox there is a little brass check valve , remove the 2 Philips screws and pull the top off, then prize out the brass plunger and lubricate the o rings with white grease. Just watch for the spring when you remove the top and plunger. These few things might help it change a little quicker, it sounds like it’s not changing up quick enough and you are dropping back into 1st,
I remember a firm from Bradford ran a few F6 tractors called Tanks and Drums but don’t recognise the number plate of yours
