That Smiths tank & day cab F7 would be one of the early ones 1979

I have posted a photo which i took around the late 1970’s which i think is the same Volvo F7

Lovely little motor, the ex Shell chinese six brings back fond memories, after years of Scammell Trunkers,we looked at them a bit??mmm, will they do the job?they were fantastic, travelled most of the UK in them on LPG,including the one in the photo, mind, they werent keen of Windy hill on the M62 running back from Stanlow loaded, but, all in all a lovely little motor.never a bad day with one, ever!!!

Just spotted the 6x4 tipper at the bottom ,this was O/D Ron skinner,s motor ,from Cricklade nr Swindon ,as it happens i was the pilot on the day of the photo shoot ,at the ARC mixer plant in Melksham wilts ,taken by Ade cypher.

With a bit of luck & hard graft this should hopefully be up and running by next year.Owned by Stephen J Tabner.

Interesting photo from Past and Present thread taken by Jock Landsborough

This shows my F7 in which I had just returned from Portugal.
My first trip overseas and what a learning curve.

This shows it two years later when I was subbing to Mike Goddard in Dover.
Not long after this it was going to end up out the back of Scantrux.
To sum up, it was an incredible truck with a huge payload advantage over the larger F10/12.
Down on power maybe but when you are paid by the tonne it had its advantages.

heres some

One from LDOY Yorkshire area around 1980. n.b. No elf ‘n’ safety rubbish here, win a driving comp and the prizes were a load of beer.
S&R’s winning team for that year. Photo taken at Montague Burtons Clothing factory in Leeds.
I’m the good looking one on the right.

On contract to Andrew Antennas at Lochgelly? Done some exports out of there over 20-odd years!

Here are some images of my F7 from downunder

This is how we arrived home after 600 km to pick it up. First load was an Atlas hiab from another truck.

This is after removing the crappy front & fitting hiab, some toolboxes & a winch.

Next part of propject is to fix the beaver tail & ramps. Thinking of putting on cheesewedge ramps. Does anyone have a set of plans for these??

The comment about truck from downunder being rust free is a little off the mark. The cab in this truck has lots of metal worm. I’ve replaced the pass floor & under the drivers seat but still have lots more to cut out - roof gutter in places, under the windscreen, back of the cab, A post, under park lights just to name a few! Spent its working life in Brisbane on the coast so not surprising.

Here is a pic of our last trip, 2600km round trip to pick up this little item.

Handled the trip well although a little slow on the hills

Looks like you have plans for it working on for a while yet OZ. That Steamer done up worth a few bob as well
