Hi all just been in the attic and found an old leaflet on the Volvo F7
mat transport ran a fair few f7s. i bet nobody got any pictures
saw these on my holidays, think they are till working
and although this is a f6 i thought it osrt of belongs here
hanson:
i rememer hercocks had some f7s they also had a six wheeler brand new with a lift up axle one of the first lift ups we had seen in them days, the driver was so proud of it
Hercocks did have a few F7 8 leggers on coal, and a few F725 6 wheelers with tilt bodies with lift up back axles. They also had F86s with tilt bodies and lift axles … They also had a few F7 artics too, don’t know if they went abroad though… when Hercocks finished Mkt Bosworth transport had a few of Hercocks old F7s…
Like most of the lads on here, i loved the F7s when they 1st came out.
Artisan Press of leicester had 5 of them, my mate started out on his own with an ex Artisan Press F7 with a 235bhp in it.
W Smith haulage of leics had 2 T-reg day cabs and 2 V-reg sleeper cabbed F7s
Ma Walkers of cosby ran a fair few of them, in the new orange livery
Great little motors, when i started on AML Transport in the early 90s i started with a leyland cruiser 4 wheel flat, and we had 1 token old F7 which i was eager to drive. One sat morn i got my chance, gaffer rang me friday to see if i’d load it out of buxton water , think i said yes before he told me your in the wee F7. Took an empty 40’ curtain up to Buxton water, left leic at 4 got the hang of the 4 over 4 straight away and got there at 6.15… empty. It was so easy to drive, comfortable for its day, better ride than the leyland. Once loaded reality hit, coming back over them big hills on the A6 was a total lesson, apologies for any motorist on the A6 that sat morn, must’ve been doin about 4mph over the top but i never knew any different, i thought that this was what all artics were like loaded at 32 tons. But i was in my element, didn’t care, i was driving a volvo F7 and was king of the road for a day.
When I was a fitter for Wrights transport in Preston we had about 10 and god where we sick of doing piston linner seals, water pumps and so much more.
The best bit for me was the bacl axle sorry lol.

THIS IS MY MIGHTY F7 BOUGHT IN MARCH THIS YEAR AND IS CURRENTLY BEEN DONE UP(ANYONE GOT ANY BITS) DOES ANY ONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS F7 THE ONLY THING I WAS TOLD ABOUT IT WAS THAT IT BELONGED TO PATTERSON TANKERS OF BATLEY THANKS BRIAN
Hiya ,
The interiors of F7s wasn’t the most durable in the world I remember at just a couple of years old the trim around the bunk started to get a bit threadbare, the carpet thinner & blacker & you only had to look at the headlining & it got dirty , so it must be a difficult task for you guys restoring them
that blue f7 brings back memories I worked for a firm in the 80s who bought there volvos secondhand from cleanaways anyone remember them? that blue was cleanaways colour or might just have been a standard volvo colour I did like those f7s though under powered by very easy drive good thread this one
Drove one in 8 legger and arctic form, they were good in there day nice to drive, under powered so not to sure where the …MIGHTY… part comes from.
took this at the truck n track show silverstone back in the 80,s
This is one from a selection a pictures a friend kindly lent to me, great little motors, not the most powerful lorries about of their time but compared to a lot of the good old tried and tested British workhorses (gawd bless 'em), comfortable easy to drive and a lovely bed.

Anyone know who owned this from new? It’s got a Notts (or Derby?) reg… poss Tomlinsons or Hensons of Nottinhgam?
I have been hunting around the web and quite surprised I couldn’t find any photos of Paul Rea
Wheel Nut:
I remember seeing a Swiss F7 with an F12 engine coming off the ferry and tried to get my boss to find one for me, how sad was that
They had (have) special laws in Swiss land about width of lorries etc which meant they had to put the F7 cab on a F12 chassis and running gear. Often they were 8 leggers because of axle/length configuration laws too. Remember those Saurers were pretty narrow too.
