The MIGHTY Volvo F7

truckerash:
There were many that did International work

Come to that, anyone else got some “nice” F7 piccys?..

Indeed they DID do international work, Ash: this is one of a pair that were bought new in 1985:

And here’s the mighty 38 tonne F7, complete with 243 bhp and 16-speed gearbox:

But the standard model could be plated at 36.6 tonnes, and carried as much as a 38 tonne F10/12:

shorter wheelbase, 224bhp and 8-speed 'box

Nice pics Chris. I had an F7 at 38 tons on E M Rogers. I remember the others always “let me go first” from Calais… soon caught me up though
I got some shots of the Bowker day cab drawbars coming down Jubilee Way. Have to dig um out.

And it survived a long time, Ash:

does the number on the bottom of the grill emblem mean anything

were it says " turbo 5" for example

PTM Boss Pete Mansky did have a very good example of an F7, fully restored in PTM colours a few years ago, dont know if he still has it or not though. I have got a picture of it somewhere, I’ll see if can find it.

used to drive an 8 speeder on E M Rogers. 4x2 tractor at 32 tons  Funny…I can find photos of every truck in the world except the 1 I had  Reckon my old boss has still got all my Rogers pics. Have to hav a word…
I was after seeing what the interior on the Australian 8 wheeler looked like after service for all thsoe years. The exterior looks awesome, wonder if the interior is the same?

God i love those trucks! I am so frustrated by not having a scanner, could post on lots of these threads. I have a pic of my friends F7, six wheeler tipper, was stretched from a tractor unit, pulled like a train.

postman paul:
Hi Ash and all, here are some more F7 beauties, sorry can’t fond any interior pics.Paul

All from the company archives - scanned from our very first colour brochure of 1988, perhaps? Apart from the tilt next to the FL10, they’re all F6s though

It’s the engine size - the F7 has “Turbo 7” on the badge, for a nominal 7 litre engine (actually 6.7 litres)

Turbo 6 actually relates to the number of cylinders whilst &,10,12,& 16 relate to cc .

ELSTRAN had an immaculate fleet including this custom jobby F7
Nice pic MR KEN, this ones bit blurred so im coming down to copy everything on me puter!

My dad in Wick with his brand new F7, unfortunatly it went downhill after that, as the next truck he got was a Seddon Atkinson brand new on a C reg(what a bag of nails!)

This one i used on various breakdowns, sweedish spec with trilex wheels.sorry about the quality of the pic .

this one was restored by one of my previous employers

What a great example of “The MIGHTY F7”…

Nice thing about Oz trucks: they never go rusty!

as promised ash, 2 pics ive dug out of the interior, sorry theyre not the best, i was only playing with me new camera at the time so taking random shots, the roof upholstery was not long redone when i took her over

Ahh the f7 first artic i drove. First job load apples out of a cold store nr bury st eds and take them to woolwich hell they wer heavy and gale force winds did’nt help much. The poor little truck struggled it’s nuts off up the a12 at a top speed of about 40mph. Great little truck though bit cold for sleeping with all that glass round it.
