…is a disgrace. The amount of roadworks, the roadworks INSIDE ROADWORKS, closures starting as early as 20:00, halting traffic to get cones out, the quality of road surface in the NS lanes between J13 and 15 both directions is nothing short of dangerous, the time it’s taking for the ‘smart’ m-way conversion…Should be downgraded to an A road. Please agree with me

Not used the M6 for 6 years now, always find a different route.

What does our resident (and very quiet recently) roving M6 reporter think of it?

Can’t argue with any of that ^^^^. I’m surprised that they haven’t put a blanket HGV overtaking ban on the entire stretch. I will freely admit to overtaking along there, one of the main reasons being to keep away from the atrocious lane one surface.
The traffic bunching and tailgating is horrendous from ALL road users there. It’s interesting to note how much better and civilised the traffic flow is on the works on the M1 near Newport Pagnell where the speed limit has been raised to 60mph. Food for thought perhaps? At least it seperates the trucks from the cars.
The reason there are so many road works on all major motorways now is part of the Green Transport plan,
They make the journey for the motorist take forever, continued disruption, encouraging them to find alternatives to using the car, thus freeing up space for Trucking Legends to hurtle about un-hindered…
Even the new stretch’s that have opened are starting to break up.

Northbound they have raised it to 60mph from a bit after J14 where the conversion is complete but I still see cars driving in the middle lane at 48mph blissfully unaware or not caring. I try to only overtake on the long straight parts when inside roadworks even then my OS mirror is about 5 millimeters from the yellow signs.

No joke, down near J6 around Birmingham they put up a billboard warning of upcoming disruptions (due to an upcoming conversion - the cones are already there and a 60mph speed limit is in place). Coming south from around Manchester there was hardly a stretch without 3 lanes coned off. I honestly don’t know what they’re thinking with the j13-15 part - that whole thing needs a deep resurfacing imo, it seems like the ground underneath gave way in some places. It’s going to cost so much and take soooo long…currently scheduled to be completed by March 2022 but I’d bet my life savings it’s going to be far from ready even by the end of 2022 and if they do compete it but don’t fix the surface/base layer well that’s going to be a joke
I completely agree the near side lane through that stretch is dangerous, your very close to the vehicle next to you, the camber is all over the place on some bits and then the surface is full of pot holes your getting thrown left and right and when another truck or coach is overtaking you’ve not much room to correct it.

From early to mid 1990’s I was running from Feltham to often as far as Killington and back in a shift M40/M6 every night 5 nights a week.At worse might have got held up in some traffic around the usual areas mainly holiday times.Other than that no problems whatsoever. Now driving to Preston from Surrey to see relatives I avoid the M6 at all costs with plenty of more attractive routes. They call that progress.
I travel myself from Stafford down to Chatham once a month or so (Never bothered to renew my entitlement last time) and usually go via M6-M1 but opted for M6-M40 last time and although longer it never seemed so and a more pleasant drive I found as there is a better surface & lack of roadworks (well if you can call that trip pleasant & not laugh)
Yes the potholes are becoming an issue and as they can only replace tarmac overnight & as quick as possible the standards can only get worse IMO.
That southern section of the 25 over the concrete surface is a national disgrace & the noise it makes must be a real pain should you live near that road.
