The Harry Gill Fan Club!

Keep breathing Dave Rigsby, and show the sawbones what you are made of. I had a couple of spells in hospital in October and November. Sent home each time with more tablets etc. Got a cataract to come off in a couple of weeks. Hopefully after that I can keep away from the place for a long time after that.
But keep your chin up, old drivers are made of stern stuff.
Cheers Dave.

Hello Dave. Good to hear your visit to the hospital was a less involved session than it can be. Hope things are more comfortable for you now.
Sorry for using your thread as a letter-box Harry. Hope all is well with you too. Jim.

Hiya,
“jmc jnrr” this thread was started away as a joke (I think) by the man himself
Mr Dave the Renegade and there is no-one more surprised than me that it is
still going strong and Dave and myself don’t mind who uses it to post letters
or message to whoever needs cheering up or whatever, that OK Dave ■■.
thanks harry, long retired.

Quite agree Harry, this thread is for all of us to cheer one another up, especially if some one has a health issue etc.
As the majority of us are past retirement age, the problems come along, but we are all here to give one another
support, and to cheer one another up.
Keep posting Jim, you are among friends and fellow drivers from the past.
Cheers Dave.

Sometimes just if having a bad week we can always post then anoth will make a comment to make us all feel a bit better with the laughter I know it has with me in the past

A bad week last week my son was at his mates funeral ( kid was a young active 27 ) I got to A1 Team Valley just as emergency services were getting there as a man had "fallen off a bridge " then thursday my aunt passed ( she was 85 & had not been well for a while )

This week is much better so far only have to get to sat when it is my mam 20th birthday party   with all the family

A very Happy Birthday to Ang Senior from all at Trucknet. Looking forward to my 20th. - if I make it! Jim.

If your Mum is only twenty Ang then you must of been very young when you were born.
Anyway I hope that you both have a great day and please pass on this message to your Mum from The Boomerang Sellers of Australia.

yep but her birthday is in fact on monday   but just party on sat anyway must dash for the war paint job have a good day

She is 80 & yep did give her a cuddle

It was a good afternoon/evening mam enjoyed it as did everyone else

I’ve been out of touch for a few day, I hope Mr Rigsby is now sorted out.
Just a question for us old uns, have we all got bad backs and knees??

I certainly have today Brian, :frowning: I don’t know if it’s because of all those years of jumping off the back of trailers or it’s because I cleaned the oven yesterday. If you read all the safety instructions on a tin of Mr Muscle oven cleaner nowadays I am surprised that they don’t advise you to go on a Haz Chem course with Alan Walker at L.P.G. Batley just to be on the safe side. Still, those rubber gloves and goggles came in handy but my misses thought that wearing my green plastic suit and me welly bobs was just a bit over the top.

Regards Steve.

 Who can forget Alan? he certainly knew his business. Try CIF oven cleaner, no need for breathing apparatus and it does a reasonable job.

Whoops, once is enough Brian.

Hiya,
Bleedin’ oven cleaning, what next wimmins’ work innit, if I lived alone ( and I’m
glad I don’t) my cooker would never need cleaning (I can’t boil water) the one
at my nearest cafe would as woould any eaterie’s cooker I chose to use would
I suppose need the occasional wipe over, but mine no way come to think about
it I wouldn’t have a clue how to turn the thing on,and while we’re on it my dish-
washer and washing machine wouldn’t get much use either Oh’ and anything as
complex as the central heating would be a big no no, Divvant gan Hinny.
thanks harry, long retired.

I know what you are thinking Harry, I really do spoil her don’t I.
Since I have been retired I have what we call “job share”. Apart from when we are on our holidays she uses the oven usually three times a day, seven days a week, three hundred and sixty five days a year, that’s including Christmas and New Years Day. And seeing that she makes the best full English breakfast this side of Dover it’s only fair that I clean it once every twelve months for her.
Don’t get me started on washing machines :open_mouth: they look even more complicated than computers but noisier. When the spin dryer goes whizzing round at about 2000 r.p.m., just before it stops my Health and Safety Training kicks in and I know that it’s a good idea to stand well back, leave the area and mess about in the shed pretending that I am busy.
I could tell that she really loved the clothes pegs that I bought her for Christmas  there was a little tear in her eye and she was speechless, she hardly spoke to me for about a week.

B.T.W. Harry, if your oven is anything like ours you turn the knob to 'On" (I think) to make it work.
I hope this helps.

Regards Steve.

i reckon my american son in law has it all sorted , he’s totally inept in the kitchen and has caused so many disasters that the daughter has drawn the " line of death " at the kitchen door past which he ventures at his peril . i really must consult him on his secret for such success . i doubt that it would wash at our house though , if i do owt wrong it just provokes a tirade of abuse , harry knows what i mean . who would think that the sweet young lasses we wed could learn all that terrible language ? dave

Well if I was inept in the kitchen we would have starved to death by now! Off now to get todays offering under fire, cod and parsley sauce fishcakes with my homemade chips and mushy peas for starters, then a pot of tea and a couple of jaffa cakes apiece. Only drawback, the washing up, but it does get my mitts nice and soft!

Hiya,
Ah that’s it then Steve our cooker knob says NO if it’s upside down I aint changing it.
I’ve told the Missus the cooker people know of my inability in the kitchen and don’t
want me upsetting their technological expertise and the NO means I keep clear :smiling_imp:
thanks harry, long retired.

Cooker’s are easy to operate Harry, well gas ones are but I have never cooked with an electric one so they might be more technical? However washer/driers are a different matter, I bought a new one when the missus was in hospital last year and it baffles me totally! :open_mouth: Everything does get washed eventually but it probably takes twice as long as it should as I can’t fathom all the fancy settings. We really need a new microwave but I never mastered the last one and no doubt they are more complicated nowadays, why can’t things just stay nice and simple? It’s like me climbing out of my last lorry (a 1989 Foden) and clambering (or attempting to  ) up into a new Scania or MAN, apart from a probably half sized steering wheel everything else would be alien to me!

Pete.
