It’s now September and this past weekend was the first time all year we as a family have managed to get away to the coast for a few days, such is the wonderful vacation time we get down here, I used one week when Kate was in hospital and am saving my only other week for Christmas, this past weekend was Labour day holiday and you would think I had committed a huge crime when I said I was not working on an actual holiday, I told them six weeks in advance that I needed Saturday, Sunday and Monday and went through a 3rd degree grilling on Friday when I turned down a Monday evening delivery to Ben & Jerry’s “But it’s only 2 hours from your house”
“Yes but I will not be at my house, I will be away until at least Tuesday morning”
This was followed by some grumbling as he checked for me asking for the day off, the day that is actually a damm holiday anyway
So early Saturday morning we put the Dog in kennels and set out for the coast o Connecticut. Kate has a desire to go to Mystic pizza (as in the movie) and 257 miles later we were sampling a ‘Slice of heaven’ … I have to say it was the best pizza I have ever tasted, we then sat for 20 minutes at the drawbridge as half the sailing ships in north America went through and drove to Norwalk and our hotel, so about 150 mile detur for pizza Spent that evening and most of Sunday on the beach, tried ‘Five Guys’ burgers and they are the best as advertised, enjoyed the nearest we are going to get to a holiday this year.
Everywhere I go I see homes with huge campers etc outside, when do people get time to go away with these things ? Vacation time in this country ■■■■■, I see no point in buying a camper that will only be used about one week a year.
The ones with the campers are the ones who run the companies who in return make sure you’ll never have anything like the quality of life away from work that they do. Having said that, up here its not usually a problem getting time off, the problem lies in getting a consistent wage for your time spent away from home.
I don’t think that many Americans actually have jobs though. How can it be that every road in the NE is ram jammed at 1 in the afternoon by hundreds of thousands of cars when these people would be at work, if they indeed had jobs in the first place. They can’t all be travelling salesmen or working odd shift patterns.
Glad you enjoyed CT though!
