Hi all

Some of you on here may know that I am going to try and save this Crusader. I bought it just before Christmas last year.
Anyone know any history? No is JVM 906V

Loads of work to do - mostly on the cab

Those Motor Panels cabs were notorious rust buckets, but what a brilliant model to restore! I sincerely wish you the best of luck for a happy restoration. Robert

Thanks guys. Really looking forward to getting started. I got a spare cab with it but both are poor so I will cut and shut a good one from 2.
It has a 290 Roller and 9 speed fuller. Started sweet and straight away after 12 years standing. Also has the high speed axel so should really pick up her skirt and run when she’s done. A few years yet though.

The last page of the Scammell Crusader thread has JVM 896V on it , from the North West area

Yep - saw that with JVM

I am guessing they are sisters. Still nothing on 906V though. I will keep trying

I`ve just checked on the DVLAs vehicle enquiry site and it states that 906V was first registered on the 15.04.1980 and was due taxing on the 01.11.1984 so it seems it was in service for 4 years , you can check it here : vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

Thanks for that Ramone. Does seem odd. Apparently the bloke I bought it from said he pulled it out of a scrap yard in around 2002 or so. So there is a 18 year gap. I know crusaders could rust but I would expect them to last more than 4 years! Some one also mentioned that it done the middle east run but I be they all say that. I also don’t think anyone would brave driving a lorry with the name “Crusader” through Turkey and the middle east…

Bit more digging I think.

Apparently my old Crusader ran to Greece before I got it:

Transcon drivers simply swapped the letters around when Ford became a dirty word in Saudi, so that an assortment of DORF, DROF and FROD units hit the desert for a while. We could do that with the Crusader too! USERCRAD would fit the bill, so here’s a mock-up picture for you. Robert

Not sure if this got sold or cut up when WJ Furber wound up the other year

What a sad sight

Hiya Dave…thanks to Tracey we know its her who dose the photo work been as thing are.
If that KM is a double drive(looks like it is) i,am sure its a rare one of only about 50 made
by Bedfords…most of them was trailing axle conversions…Shirleys in Stoke had one that got the
Gas axe about 3 years ago.that one was ex royal navy.
John

I can’t recall Griffiths & Hartland running that one John. Will have to have another trip to that site and ask the owner a bit more about it.
Cheers Dave.
