The fines in Europe are not fair

richmond:
Simon, for a moderator, that is a stupid comment, i been driving international for 23 yrs now, i have paid all my fines, of which i have had plenty and some more, i have no problem with paying a fine, however i would agree that the fines across europe are not a level playing field, or anywhere near it.that was what the posting was about, ,Please add a sensible comment, or if you have nothing to add to the posting, just keep quiet, best regards richmond.

Are you saying I shouldn’t have a personal opinion, unless it concurs with yours?

Hello again simon, no of course you can give your personal opinion, its just that the majority of bad comments i hear, and see about trucknet, are about stupid comments, and here we have a moderator, adding to the pointless comments, rather than policeing them, really, you need to move on a bit.

So you are saying that unless my opinion concurs with yours, it’s a stupid or pointless comment.
As long as I know where you stand.
Here is a genuinely pointless comment. Jog On.

 hahaha

The GNR Portuguese traffuc unit, they were some bad apples,in the 1990s,some did go to jail, for false fines, two receipts,ie one for the "foreign" driver, who thinks he or she has commited an offence when they have not. Running on a truck ban, when all trucks are sailing past me,refused to pay that one, trailers with JCB s in them, they said if the consignor has to pay the fine it will be higher,if the driver pays, its only some coffee money.

The french cops down the forest road were always on the pull, rumour had it that a load of them got caught pocketing the fine money, although i dont know for sure if its true, i think the ony country taht i havent yet been fined in is holland, although im working on it, so i can get the full set…jog on…lol

I have heard the same rumour about pocketing the fine money, there was supposed to be a false weigh bridge in the forest road, you can still see it,on the right going south bound.
In Portugal, neighbours became suspicous in to how low paid traffic cops were having nice holidays, swimming pools and expensive jewelery,no doubt a scam was in operation.

I have started at the top again, just to see what was written.

The laminated permit was mentioned here, the fine wasn’t for it being laminated, it was for being 7 years old and out of date :stuck_out_tongue:

The Attestation with biro on it was the last straw for the condoms, how thick did we think they were, firms were handing out photo copies of the things to any driver and they filled them in. We used to do the same with tank cleaning certificates but they cottoned onto that too.

Even nicking the hour was taking the ■■■■ but many drivers got away with that one, it was the cassette drawer that buggered that up because you could not see where the stylus was going to mark.

I think the word to describe fines in Europe is Punitive.

If you’re wondering, it means ‘you won’t make the same mistake again, cos it costs so flamin’ much if you’re caught’.

Fines here, for us, are not so punitive, but the points on your licence are.
It’s the way things are, learn to live with it.

I got a tacho fine in Austria 70 euros at the roadside because my 9 hr break went an hour into the next day, but had no cash on me at 11 pm so they posted the fine when it arrived at my door it had gone up to 270 euros contested (by our firms office) they reduced by 50% but still almost double cant work that out :open_mouth:

the fine would have been reduced to 70 euros if it was paid there and then.
i got a fine for overtaking on the bordeaux ring road. they pulled a dutch driver for the same thing, they explained that he would pay more because he had to go to the cash machine.
it’s just a way to stop people from contesting fines, and clogging up the courts.
