Waitrose trucks ain’t strangled , they just choose to ■■■■ you off
We have 11 63 plate DAFs and 7 are limited to 52. 4 will do 54 and neither are much good for Warrington trunks
Had a Waitrose DD pass me on the A303 climbing the hill out of Amesbury the other day and it wasn’t hanging around as I couldn’t catch it up like I normally do, been overtaken by a couple of their 56 plate scania units recently too. Also been passed by the odd Morrisons, Asda etc which leaves me wondering if the supermarkets really do restrict their motors or they leave it up to the driver

We’ve just got the newest fleet (“63” Scania P440) a few weeks ago, which are all limited to 85kph. Don’t know if it’s a depot thing or the whole network when they get new fleet.
They also have this ridiculous " Eco-Cruise" on it so if you come across an ASDA who’s speed is rather erratic around the tops of hills, then it’s the system, not the driver, so don’t offer the driver coffee beans like I have had lol

We have the same on our new DAF’s. Cannot manually override the gears abovr 30kph and kickdown button is disabled. Why can’t trucks just let US be the drivers.

Dr Dave:
All these wagons trundling along at 50/52mph are positively dangerous, to drive one must be so frustrating.Thats what I thought before I started driving one, you get over it very quickly. It’s the way forward (at least while everyone else is still dong 56). Sit in lane 1, cruise control and let everyone else worry about overtaking. Bliss.
To say they are ‘positively dangerous’ is a bit extreme though in my opinion, 50/52mph is perfectly acceptable progress.
I knew I had a 2+ hour wait at my first drop yesterday so I stuck at 50mph the whole way. Overtook absolutely nothing. All trucks passing me did so with ease. I would’ve said a 50mph truck was safer than elephant racing another truck with the same limit as yours.

What a load of old ■■■■, how can it be “positively dangerous” doing 50mph??
I’ve gone from charging about at 56mph everywhere to driving at 50mph(restricted) and once I got over the frustration of it, driving has become far more relaxing, I don’t have to overtake anyone, we’ll very rarely, I don’t have to look out for speed vans on DC’s, if you tried it for a few weeks, you’d see where I was coming from

If I tried driving a tesco axor for a few weeks I’d want to put a bullet through my head…
m1cks:
I’ve noticed over the past few weeks a few of the 52mph brigade seem to have sped up. Recently been overtaken by Sainsburys and John Lewis/Waitrose motors (not subbies or hire units either)
Anyone else noticed the same?
I think the sainsburys lads have speeded up due to some of their fleet now having dual fuel capability, like LPG or something…tesco have a couple on trial I think, ya never know they might surprise us and let us loose at 56mph one day

Thought you had drove an axor for a while at Tesco??
We thought we might be getting away from having more axors added to the fleet, but have had a load of 63 reg axors delivered
We’ve had quite a few speed reductions for various reasons over the years…down to 56 mph, some down to 52 mph, PCV’s down to 62 mph, 7.5 tonners down to 62/56mph, not to mention 40 mph on A - roads. I think we always protest at first but get used to living with new restrictions.
The common posts on this thread all mention new motors/fleets - would you sooner have a ‘slower’ new truck or a ‘faster’ much older truck?? Interesting!!!
ive been driving for ceva for the past couple of weeks through an agency and im using a plain white MAN unit pulling a plain blue trailer and im lucky if it does 52 MPH… it usually sits at around 51 mph so I wrote it in the dirt on the trailer doors to let any other faster driver know that im moving slower than granny in treacle…
apologies to any driver who gets stuck behind me…
iI have a reason for asdking this. But which do you think is more accurate the speedometer or your satnav?.
A GPS would be more accurate if you could eliminate the time delay. It uses a mathematical formula to calculate speed as opposed to a sensor which can have variables due to tolerances in the manufacturing process and wear and tear.

Sat Nav.
A vehicle speedo is designed to underread from what its actual reading.
GPS is still prone to errors.

No, tesco, Argos, swain, culina, wincanton, marmite, Morrison, dhl (getting bored now) still barely do more than 50 & I can’t see it changing anytime soon…Culina do 52.8 mph to be precise.
I know, you should see some of their drivers faces when they hit the M5 after holding you up via the numerous routes from Hereford.
Took mine in today to be put back to 56
We’re limited to 52, but still expected to do 700ks plus a day. As for danger there are aspects, i.e. you let another truck out on a motorway and end up stuck in the middle lane as he desperately tries to undertake… thanks ! Also junctions such as M42/M40 leave you in the same situation.
Basically it’s accountant spec,
I’m starting to see more Asda motors making progress, I think they are from Portbury or Chepstow, can anyone shed some light…!?
