P.S The Alan Lightfoot does haul a tipper, but not in this photo

first trip in a truck was in a albion reiver tipper for harrisons lime ,load of burnt lime from shap to the paper mill at churnside aged 9, about 6 years later the driver was involved in a bad accident on the a6 at theifside and saddly died from his injurys

last one to-night and something completely different,a Dutch barge crossing the border on the Rhine at Emmerich and going at “full ahead” loaded to the gunnels with coal!!!

Hello shortstuff,
Who’s Harrisons Line, Please tell me more about them??
Bewick, great photo.

Hiya CG you “star” !! The correct name of the firm was Harrisons Lime Works and they had/have two quarries ( IIRC ) one at Blencowe, on the Keswick road out of Penrith. And the other that “shortstuff” mentioned was/is on the A6 north of Shap village. Now own up CG if I hadn’t explained that the barge was on the Rhine I could have conned you into believing it was one of Markleys motors ploughing up the Solway with a load of opencast coal from Whitehaven eh! !! Cheers Bewick.

Hello Bewick,
Thanks for telling me about Harrison’s Line. It’s not my area.
And, I wouldn’t have thought the boat was Markley’s. I would have thought it was the international division of Bewick Transport!!! (Only jokeing!!)

Bewick:

How may liveries did this Bewick lot have?

Hello Eddie Stobart Fan,
Heres the photo of the Stobart DAF I said I would post.

This is an awesome photo.

truckfing:
Here are a few more recent ones. Notice how the name is not quite visible on the first DAF so as not to incite certain people.

I like this one.

truckfing:
Sorry CG but that is the one and only picture I have of Greggains. When I was leading out of Caldbeck Quarry in 1984 there were 2 Greggain 8 wheelers on the same job as well as some D&A Harrison ERFs, but I was not taking pictures then and once safely back in Lancashire I hardly ever saw those companys again.

Another cracking photo

here one for you Bewick

kev pugh:
here one for you Bewick

After my time kev.,but it looks like the tipper was used to cart away the baled wire and strapping from Bowater Scotts (?) No pig iron making in Barrow by the time this shot was taken !! nice " atmospheric" shot all the same. Cheers Bewick.
