Did Tony do some jail time for fuel pump fraud?Colin an owner driver still lives down the road from the Rouitier at St.Genis.
He had a F12 or F16 Globetrotter.
The Gendarmes would stand at the roundabout before the truckstop at 21.55 on Saturday night.Stood there with torches.
There was the Creperie on the road from Cherbourg. The daughter of the owner had a neck brace on,she got distracted with her cat in the car and had a crash.
Think it was near Rennes.

Yes used to stop there as well , it had a large gravel parking area opposite. Another 2 places I used to use were in the Nantes area ,on the old road near the airport, Lukes and The Flying Sausage.

With the view of the bird sanctuary.Do you mean the birds in there camper van just south of La Rochelle ■■?
bloody hell, i’d forgot about the camper-van
like others here, fond memories of freds, mid-late 90’s and early noughties. i liked fred, nice guy, good with languages and directions, some moaned about his prices, but i thought he was fair. when it was at the big dust park, before it all got developed, can anyone remember the name of freds, kind of, main waiter■■? he could be a happy chap, saw him go after a guy 1 night with 1 of those big glass ashtrays
this upstairs/downstairs, think i may of heard of that
used to like lloret, was the coach park called, ‘pujol?’ i liked the way that if you payed, you could get 1 of their minibuses to drop you down town, cracking showers at the coach park too.
victors was never 1 of my faves, but a handy stop off point.
what about cambrills, now that was a cracking stop for your dinner.
i still say doing spain mid 90’s till early 00’s was my favorite times in this job.
Ah , yes the Grande Buffet @ Cambrills and its still there, stopped there a couple of years ago in the car on the (long)way to Malaga.
Cambrills; You pay one price.Eat as much as you want. The fresh fish is amazing.Crustaceans, squid, octopus, clams, oysters, shrimps and lobster ir crab.
Locals come in too.
There is a “club” nearby to burn off the calories with some “horizontal dancing”.
Or test the springs in the mattress to check if they conform to strict EU law from Brussels on bounciness and weight supporting formulae and spreadsheet calculation calculations.
Was in cambrills 6 weeks ago stillgood food and priced
Second fred topguy and do anything to help you
Cabbage pAtch had a few good weekends in there and same at claudes st genis
France now hardly anywhere open all weekend so the crack in the job not as good
And motorway services are boring plus the fact not as manybrits now
Carisio still fairly good for food for weekends
Victors was ok but never weekended there
Castets was ok nothing special
Food in poiters still one of the best but closed weekends
was last down In Lloret about 3 yrs ago you cant park in the coach park anymore but I used to stay in the info park on thr right as you drive into town somebody told me that trucks aren’t allow in town at summer time anymore ?
upstairs downstairs when the shower block in the car park was broken they used to let you go upstairs and use the showers in the girls rooms but you had to put a euro in the metre to get the light on and you got the same amount of time as the punters got half an hour lol
loved spain I wonder if george is still doing the tiles back to the uk ?
The good old tile collections. It could take two days to load a trailer due to the Siesta’s that were three to four hours long. They go home to sleep and eat like Kings.
The Porcelensa site is the size of Heathrow. Most of the time i was over loaded as they cram on a few extra pallets.
Or samples for a new prospective customer.
Yes ,agree there 24 ton of anything from the Castillion area always seem heavier than 24 ton from anywhere else.
Edit to add : loved spain I wonder if george is still doing the tiles back to the uk ?
I cant think who George is ,the only two I can think of is Gorgeous George (never knew his proper name ) who died in his cab overnight near Salamanca or George Eames who used to pull for Interoute
I knew Allan Jerrom. He went on to Inter route as a manager. He used to pull for Euro PSL ltd out of Pompey docks.
Did anyone remember the two Volvlo F12’s with R&G red trailers.
Always ran as a pair on Poruguese runs.
Stevie Holland and his mate.
Alex Harper with a blue lhd Scania 142 with an Esteppe roof conversion. He had polio as a kid.He had a small holding in the UK.And a girl friend.
Brintons carpets out of Vouzela in Portugal.
Two Erf’s on that with PSL.Trailer swap. Then turn around back to Kidderminster.
John Povey the scouser.
Dave Brooker or Irish Dave.

I used to load a full load of tiles then on top 26 pallets of spontex sponges. Used to be a right pain as the tiles were all different sizes and shapes and always set the radioactive scanner off in Dover

John thought he was the gods gift to women , I remember one instance in a waterpark when he got stuck in the waterslide when he managed to get moving it was a terrifying sight to see. The image was something like this a overweight guy coming down the side of a hill screaming, trunks disappearing into the cracks of hairy buttocks with the locals looking up in disbelief and a look of horror when he hit the water, the trunks had all but disappeared. I can smile about it now but at the time I very nearly needed counselling.
Povey’s belly was huge. You may have known Stuart Smith. His nick name was the Animal. He was killed in Spain on the way to Maroc.Hit a broken down coach.
British International had a fleet of Iveco 360 Turbostars.
Have you heard of Bob Garnett.?

Last time I saw Bob was when he was with Seabrook International, they had offices in Eastleigh on the industrial estate. They had long moved up from Pompey I guess their office there was a part of the ferryport expansion. I first met him when he had Garnett eurotran that’s a few years back. I remember Animal I did not know he had been killed though sad to hear but you know how it is in the driving game if you move away it is easy to lose touch with what’s going on. B.Is fleet of Ivecos Tim and Peter sat there in the office telling you that they had a good deal for you, you take over one of these wonderful lorrys and work for us and one of us will make some money they never said which one though.
Tim Allan and Peter Taplin the poisoned dwarf. They got me too.A high price for “their” Goods in transit insurance.I saw Tim on a ferry to France.Looking well.Has a house in France.
I pulled for Garnett Eurotrans and Freight Transfer.
For a while we could not transit France due to some problem between Jcb and Manitou.
Used Bilbao/Santander.Drops at Motivo in Portugal with the Jcb’s stickig out of the trailer roof.
I heard Bob was seriously ill with either heart problems or a suicide attempt. His Dad was a Customs officer at Southampton.
That mountain pass called Los Carolinas which was South of Bailen was a real dangerous one.New road now.
At BI there was Ken Hughes, tall lad with moustache.
Popeye Alldridge and his son Mark.
Ken Adams.Yorkshire lad who had his Foden stolen in the UK.A black cab.
Peter Stainbridge or Jelly Legs.Same white collared shirt and black trousers all year.
The Sopcell paper factory near Figuera de Foz.That place stank.
Think you have forgotton Steve,s (Shady on here ) mates name on R&G Toby ,it was Ian Penny
Alex Harper with the Scania, his girlfriend was/is as here as Scanialady143

I remember animal, used to see him strolling through freds ordering beer or egg and chips.
Was having a beer with him 1 day, and I’m sure he picked up a bottle of tabasco or similar, and just downed it
I heard off another driver about the crash, sad news.
Los carolinas and miguels mountain, could be entertaining at night in a rainstorm.
Bob bloody Garnett, I did like bob when we did traction for him but some of those trailers were hanging I remember loading onions in Spain for him and struggling north with our old fl10 then back in the uk and 4 nitemare drops…
Good times and I agree with a previous post that the early 90’s were a cracking time with alot of brit drivers still doing it and not alot of taliban…
