The City of Derby

If you think Stoke is bad, you’ve obviously never been there. You’d know it’s bad.

Plenty of places to get a kebab though. Sod all else.

Born and raised there

Until a few years ago Derby was a doddle of a City to negotiate, from Nottingham/M1 follow the A52 into town and along St Alkmunds way, up Friargate and Ashbourne Road and within a few minutes you were out of town onto the A38 at Markeaton and away. Then some bright spark decided it was better to trawl all goods traffic around the poxy ring road… .

Pete.

Whoa, what about the oatcake shops!

I was also bottle fed on oatcakes, wrights pies and sterra!

I live in Slough.
To me Derby looks like Monte Carlo.

I believe in this game of ‘crap town top trumps’ I have just played an unbeatable card. :grimacing:

I agree, Slough’ll take some beating. I delivered there today, I was expecting to find some “colonials” hiding when I opened the curtains…Hoping I could smuggle them out to a place of safety.
Hang on, can I nominate Park Royal? Can IS invade there please? A few days of mindless destruction and we’d never notice the difference.
Failing Park Royal, then Harlesden.

Uh… no one’s mentioned Newport yet, that place is the definition of shizzlehole. I’ve nothing against Wales or Welsh people, just Newport.

Over the years some towns and cities in this country have had a reputation for being…a bit grim.
Liverpool, Middlesbrough, Glasgow, to name three. A city which seems to have escaped being called manky is…Derby.
But!!! Can anyone tell me if there is a nice part of this awful city?

Yes mate, the way out!! A52 direction Nottingham :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

Is that the place where that team called Forest is? I understand it stands for ‘Fights Off Relagation Every Saturday Teatime’?

The last “proper” oatcake shop shut a couple of years back, there really is not a single redeeming feature to the place now!

And Wrights pies have been made in Crewe for years

When me and dad go to the match, I have a Meat and Tater, and a Steak, because when I only take one, I always fancy the other.

And a Wrights Meat & Potato pie is a proper sized pie.

Maybe the East Midlands should hold an independence referendum. In fact anywhere over 50 miles away from London should split from the south east

And yes, I’ve been to Derby, didn’t think it was that grim. Not like Hull, or Leigh Park or Cwmbran or Luton.

Last nights game was played behind closed doors by the look of the crowd, shameful support for a city of that size :unamused:

For a relatively small country, we have some very beautiful, and yet some shamefully grim places, often around the corner from each other.

With all the Lebanese shiksa bars there I thought IS had already taken over. I like Park Royal, used to be very profitable place for me on the dust  I see someone mentioned Slough, that’s a top shout, horrid place. Weirdly enough I’m starting a new job through an agency based in Slough, hope I’m not delivering round there. Can I nominate Gillingham ? Pure chav / ■■■■■ town.

Some interesting replies.
Yes we all are aware of the crappiness of yer Hulls, Coventrys, Boltons, and many others as a stated, what I was getting at was I always thought Derby was a much nicer place than it. It even sounds nice…Derby! It’s in the lovely county called Derbyshire! But what it actually is, is an imposter! It’s a Birmingham lookalike. Or maybe a suburb of Islamabad.
England really is a beautiful place but the folks who don’t have to live in the cities, like me, should be very grateful!
And I am.

I have to agree about corby, and I live 2 miles from there. .

You just passed through some of the worst parts, trust me, there are far better areas…

I often go that way, and wonder to myself what people think as they pass through :frowning:

If you like proper beer, we are the real ale capital of the UK, loads of pubs still thriving unlike our neighbour down the Brian Clough Way :unamused:

Croydon anyone ?
