Just seen this news feature on the BBC news website, which gives the name of a good firm of solicitors who specialise in helping drivers and haulage companies fight unfair fines with regard to the current Calais crisis.
A piece from the news article says "Lorry driver Mark Baldwin was fined £600 and his firm was fined £1,200 after he arrived from Calais with migrants in his trailer. He told BBC Breakfast he had earlier found eight migrants hiding in his lorry at Calais. They were removed after he alerted French authorities.When he arrived in the UK he asked border staff to check his lorry again and they discovered three more stowaways, he said.
His fine has been rescinded, but he said his firm - which has since stopped making trips to the continent - had to pay its penalty."
As a driver who has done a considerable amount of European work over the years, I felt this was worth posting here, as the government currently has no plans to change the law with regard to driver and company fines, which bearing in mind the situation at Calais at the moment, seems grossly unfair on drivers in my opinion.

We are seen as a cash cow no 2 ways about it, They don’t even use that heartbeat detector at calais most of the time infact they seldom even check lorries in that shed, then there’s the Euro tunnel at calais, very few lorries get checked there , they don’t even have the body detection dog come round whilst you wait for the train ,or they didn’t do this prior to increasing security , And the UKBA’s claims that if we take simple steps to prevent illegals getting inboard we won’t be fined is a load of bollox !!! lying barstewards

not heard of any being fined, same goes for train drivers and ferry captains, Just us lorry drivers,
Can just imagine it, bunch of illegals running down the runway after a plane …

I’m pretty sure Airlines are fined if they bring in illegal immigrants, I doubt the pilots pay though.
