The adventures of the Swift driver

We all know that over here the company that employs more idiots than anyone else is Swifts. If there is a truck off the road, a collision or worse in this area about 80% of the time a Swift truck is involved sonewhere

Yesterday (Weds) I pulled onto Westborough service plaza on the Mass Pike, the truck park was as always packed, but I squeezed through to find a space in the far corner and strolled back to get some grub. As I walked back a Swift driver puuled in and parked outside a space, so blocking the route through, got out and walked into the building, looking back at his bright new Frieghtliner columbia, bright blue as opposed to the usual white. I finished my food and came out about 45 minutes later to see him standing staring at his new truck, the front had been taken off, light’s, grille and bumper were about 50 feet away and no sign of whoever did it :astonished:

The poor guy had no idea what to do. I looked aroud to see a cop guarding soem workrs and asked him if he’d seen what happened ? “I heard it” said the cop “but I can’t leave here”
“Did the other guy stop ?” I asked.
“I don’t know and I don’t really care because the guy is parked illegaly” he said.
Within 5 minutes a DOT cop arrived and gave the driver a ticket, not this guys day.

On the rear of all Swift trailers it say’s “Award winning drivers”
So where are they all

Swift Drivers■■?..they are a chuffin joke mate.
Used to be back in the 90’s that JB Hunt and Schneider Drivers were the worst and boy did they get some stick on the CB. I lost count of the JB jokes on the CB.That was when both companies used to make them run at the double nickel, but since they have been allowed to run at 65 and JB was forced to close the training school down thay seem to have lost a lot of the stigma.

But Swift… they really are the most brain dead moronic drivers I see everyday, yes your right, most truck crashes seem to involve Swift drivers :open_mouth:

S.W.I.F.T. = Slow Wagon In Fast Traffic

S.W.I.F.T. = Sure Wish I (had a) Faster Truck…God help us if they ever did turn those things up! :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

I reckon Swift drivers were taught to drive by the Stevie Wonder School of Driving…much like most US drivers! :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Sounds about right. He has branches over here too guys…

Hi All,

Another version of the Swift name is the following;

S.W.I.F.T.

STOP
WHINING
I’M
FRICKIN’
TRYING.

Of course, it is prone to use of some alternative words in there, somewhere.

Best Wishes To All!

Jim!

Years ago in the UK I worked for Swift (no conection) they too developed the reputation of hireing idiots at every depot except Northampton and Boston, (the originals)
Strange how on either side of the ocean both ‘IDIOT’ companies have the same name.

Pat,

One wonders why this operation chose to call themselves “Swift” considering they hold everyone else up, on the Interstates.

Jim.

I think it’s because of the speed the drivers run away after an accident

Getting back to Swift (Northampton) they used 15’6" tautliners and one night an agency driver asked me how to get to Stroud from N’pton, I was going there but leaving an hour earlier, so I gave him what he wanted but expressed that when he left for the M1 to turn left down a back road because there was a 14’6" bridge on the Crck road, I mean I drummed this into the guy because of his 15’6" trailer. At Stroud I waited 2 hours then phone to see if he had been held up.
The idiot had forgotten what I said and hit the bridge at 60mph, the tacho showed the speed went from 60mph to 0mph in 15 ft :exclamation: and destroyed the week old trailer.
This trailer was rebuilt near Kettering and when finished they sent some guy to collect it, he drove about 5 miles from the repair shop and put it under a 12’6" bridge

Don’t people read the “LOW HEADROOM” signs

Yeah and I bet the tlr hight wea on the front of the tlr, used to pull 15ft 7in tlr dare not go on a drive about*****

The ultimate Swift driver idiot.

One morning last week I followed a Swift driver off the Mass Pike at exit 11a, there are 8 toll booths, two of which are Fast lane. As I was going north on I-495 I selected the left side fast lane. as did the Swift guy in front, in the toll he stopped, got out and walked to the manned toll booth to ask the guy directions, thus stopping everything from moving. When the idiot got back into his cab he recieved a barrage of insults from everyone in the queue. Swift drivers answer as to why he stopped “I wanted to know which way to go for I-495 north ?”
DUH :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: There are only about 6 signs overhead telling you which line to be in.

Back in the late 80’s/early 90’s, I worked for JB Hunt. Yes, we hired many inexperienced drivers, and yes, there were many jokes about us. Here are a few:

Q: What do you get when 3 JB Hunt trucks leave a truckstop?
A: 6 free spaces.

Q: What do you call it when a Schnieder truck is passing a Hunt truck up a hill?
A: A roadblock.

Q: Why does JB Hunt paint their trailer doors yellow?
A: So the drivers know which end to not hook up to.

Q: Why is a toilet better off than a JB Hunt driver?
A: Because the toilet only has to take **** from one ***hole at a time.

and so forth…

Thursday morning, I-95/I-90 intersection, I was coming off I-95 toward the toll booths to join I-90, a ‘Swift’ driver was in front, he passed through fast lane at the recomended 15 mph, he didn’t get a green light, I followed through but the idiot had stopped about a truck legnth ahead and started to reverse toward me, I sounded the horn so he got out and walked back to ask me to back up so he could try again, meanwile with about 50 cars behind us I swore at him and told him to carry on, “What about the fee ?” he asked.
“That is Swifts problem, not yours, now get the **** out of the way you idiot”

Where do they get these guys from ?

I saw a classic today.

I was sitting on a loading dock in Springfield MA when along comes … you guessed it … a Swift truck, they do a switch there, or just drop and go elsewhere, the later being the case with this guy, he parked his trailer on a dock and unhooked. The regulations here say that you must fit a red air line lock when dropping any trailer on any door. The company gave him the lock to fit before he left. Not being one to actually spy on these guys (allthough tempting) I went across the road for my daily intake of Dunkin Donuts and as I left the Swift guy drove past (unit only) off to some other location which could have been miles away, I glanced at the back of the tractor as he passed by and niticed the ‘Idiot’ had locked the device on his air line, NOT the trailer
I have visions of this fool getting to a trailer 100 miles away and finding that he can’t hook up because his red line has a lock on it

I was behind a swifty on my way into work today, going through the EZ-Pass lane onto the NY state thruway. He rolls through, then pulls over, blocking the lane. Unbelievable!

10 years or more ago, I drove for JB Hunt, who was the “Swift” of the time. Actually, back then Swift wasn’t such a bad company, except out on the west coast. They were a company that tried a lot of innovative things, such as specialised tractor for their air freight runs (57’ roll-floor units with an almost european-looking 6’ kingpin setback), and even using drawbar-type curtainside units (very rare over here).

I-93 northbound was blocked all day today at Springfield MA because a Swift rear ended a J B Hunt, right by exit 4 in the 4 lane construction section. :exclamation:

Poetic justice??

i was wrong  it was I-91

Swift…But only in name not in quickness. Used to be they could only go up to 57 mph. Can you imagine going down I-10 in AZ and NM at 57mph■■? I encountered a Swift driver in a rest area just before a scale on I-10 in FL. He had a 53 ft trailer and his tandems were way too far back on his trailer . He was new , a green pea out of training school so I suggested he move his tandems to where they should be. Well he didn’t take my advice and I saw him pulled over on the scale. I got out and sure enough , he had been fined $100. Duh!! Watch those FL scales.
Anyway, Swift can go at 65mph now, but still a little bit slow for us. We do a lot of runs from FL to CA . :sunglasses: :open_mouth:
