That's why agency drivers get a bad name

Hello all  I just got back from a 4 week holiday and decided to pop in to the depo to have a look what has changed. to get the story straight all the drivers in our depo have their own units, which sometimes are being used by agency drivers at night or to cover other drivers rota whilst they’re on holiday. i always keep my unit nice and clean and before i left on a friday i cleaned it and everything because i thought it would be nice to find a nice clean unit when i get back, but how wrong was i… when i opened the door i thought that i have steped into a farm… :open_mouth:  spilt coffee everywhere, on the seats, dashboard and all over the cab, cab phone has been ripped off, windows wouldnt go down i just could go on and on.

how could you not get mad at agency drivers please do tell, cuz i’m just lost for words. it took me 2h to clean all the ■■■ off. and tomorrow i will have some words with the maneger because its just not normal to leave it like that, i bet he would even care.

your thoughts and experiences please

sorry for the long story :unamused:

4 weeks holiday, wow.
Did you take pictures? Don’t tar all agency drivers the same way, you might of had 1 guy in your vehicle for the whole 4 weeks, get your gaffer to contact the agency and complain.

Its quite possible that you have had a whole squad of drivers in "your"motor.I once had a weeks work from the agency ,the gaffer came to me on Fri afternoon saying I want you in at 7am Monday.I had to say sorry I am on holiday this was a one week contract for me.

i took one so i could show it to the manager. all that contacting agency thing i doubt it very much cuz all the management dont care whats happening with the units as long as they’ve got wheels and it drives and delivers goods all the rest f**k it

could be, but still if youve spilt something wipe it off, ive left loads of tissues in the cab just in case such thing happens. bloody pigs

Did you get paid to pop into the depo and clean your truck? do you always clean your truck at weekends or do you do it on your break?did you leave cleaning things in your truck? The agency drivers would not get paid so why go in at the weekend they maybe don’t get paid breaks so cannot clean trucks and will not pay for cleaning products for someone else’s truck, maybe next time only take 1 day off at a time.

That sound exactly what it’s like in my place when I get into my truck after being on holiday. The thing that annoys me most is the fact that the bosses are not interested when I complain about the mess inside the truck. As long as the truck hasn’t been damaged, they just don’t care. I like to take a bit of pride in my truck, so it’s annoying that others haven’t.:imp:

I understand your frustration, I am an agency driver and I always leave a cab how I find it, in my experience a driver is a driver and many core drivers are just as grufty…one cap doesn’t suit all.

I can’t understand how people are that messy, I’m on agency at the moment, and I always without fail leave the truck how I find it… I even change the radio station back to what it was when I got in it.

Are you far enough up your own arse when you are looking down at us measly agency drivers.

I hate ignorant â– â– â– â– â–  that think that agency drivers are scum of the earth.

I’m an agency driver now, we aren’t all some sort of second class citizens :unamused: I take wipes with me to every job, and the cab is always left cleaner than I find it, I take all my rubbish with me, including any that some other tramp has left in there.

My main complaint with agency drivers over the years have been that a lot of them are very bad at what they do, they miss deliveries, drag out the hours, take the long way round, can’t find places, can’t reverse, can’t drive basically, and yet they cost 4 times what a regular driver does.

As for mess and general hygiene, It’s not just agency drivers who do that. I’d say most drivers don’t really give a care about the state they leave units in. Particularly if they are doing short day runs or whatever.

I did a couple of shifts for Nightfreight a few weeks ago, the state of the units was disgusting, I used a whole pack of wipes over the course of the day, just to make it bearable to use the basic controls. I came back the next day, and it was in a worse state that I left it, I just couldn’t believe it. But it was full time driver who had used it overnight on a trunking run.

When people talk about lorry driving being a dirty job, i’m learning that they really aren’t talking about the nature of the work, but rather, the nature of the people.

Quit whinging and get on with it ffs. :unamused:

i know it sounds sad but i poped in and cleaned it. i have left wet wipes, tissues and a rug. left all the basics really.

That’s ok but i have worked at places where if at the end of the shift you sat in the truck for 10 minutes they would think you are time wasteing and not pay you.

there is probably one in ten agency driver who does what you do and the rest dont give a toss. so what you do you say “agency driver” has left it like that. you’re always gonna use thatphrase “agency drivers” are this that and the other. if i knew the name i would say “john smith is a pig for leaving my unit like that or something” I’m sorry if i have offended anyone :unamused: :sunglasses:

i get paid for 11h no matter how long my day has been. except weekends and bank holidays when i get paid by the hour

For goodness sake people please stop referring to licence holders as drivers, a lorry driver takes pride in doing the job well, that includes looking after the tools of the trade, a licence holder wouldn’t kow what we are talking about.

It matters not a jot whether said person is full time, part time, agency or casual, if they are useless dirty pig they are a useless dirty pig.

Age also has no bearing on this at all, there are older blokes who haven’t a clue and never will, and there are young and new ones who try their damnedest to do the job right.

Its damned annoying for the OP if he looks after the motor, especialy galling if the gaffers are ignorant too.

A driver can take pride in his job but that dosn’t mean he has to clean his truck how many staff in the transport office clean up before they go home

Actually in most offices ive been in after hours to drop paperwork on someone’s desk etc pretty much all the desks are clean with pens back in the holder, keyboard straightened up and paper work cleared etc
I personally don’t want to drive around in a dustbin and when I was in a full time time job with my own allocated unit I kept everything clean and even drove in my socks most of the time. If people want to drive around in a ■■■■ hole that’s up to them.

COME TO STOBARTS PAL! Mobile skips, NOT agency drivers either!!! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: MANAGERS DON’T/ WON’T DO ANYTHING :open_mouth: :frowning: :unamused: :smiling_imp:
