TFL Bus Lanes on Red Routes

I have only heard this today while I was driving along in the car listening to the radio but for those of you who deliver into London, be aware that from today 13th September you are unable to drive in a bus Lane on a Red route at any time day or night now 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The fine is £130.00 This has been slipped out by TFL and the Mayor’s Office. I live in South London and this is the first I have heard of it :frowning:

24-hour bus lanes trial
As part of a trial from the 13 September 2020, most bus lanes on the red routes will start to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

This is to support a sustainable recovery from the pandemic by helping to make bus journeys more reliable and consistent. It’ll also help reduce bus congestion and create more space to help make the roads safer for cyclists.

To keep the bus lanes clear, some parking bays will be suspended during the trial. Blue Badge parking facilities will not change.

Loading bays are not affected for now, but we’ll monitor how they’re being used and how they impact bus reliability to understand if they can be moved in the future.

Road users such as taxis, motorcyclists and cyclists will have the same access to bus lanes as they had before. Only the hours of operation will change. This page has further details about which vehicles can use a bus lane.

Bus lane signs will be changed to indicate the new hours of operation.

Before you travel, you can check a list of roads that are affected in your borough.

The trial will last for up to 18 months and will be carefully monitored. Find how you can have your say.

Do t know if it’ applies to london.but I read an article other day.
If you stray into a bus lane and it’s your 1st offence you just get a letter . 2nd time onwards you get a fine

I read that article too, however The Mayor of London has got to “balance” the books as he had to ask the Government for a bail out in May due to TLF having no money so I doubt that the fine in the London area will be waived for a 1st offence.

School children were enjoying free travel but this has now been withdrawn and while £1.50 per journey may not seem a lot, some children are using 2 buses a day to get to school so 2 free journeys a day to and from school suddenly becomes £30.00 a week to get to school which a lot of parents may have difficulty in finding that money cue let hit the cash strapped motorist.

Well thats a bloody lot of signs to be changed over night or the fine won’t stand.

When you delve into the detail on the TfL site you get to discover who they are most concerned about:
