Texted to death.

I-95 at exit 8 in Stamford CT this morning a fatal accident in which some people died including the woman driver who according to witnesses was busy texting as she hit the jersey barrier. From what I gathere although the car was totalled and her head was pressed against the dash waiting to be cut free she carried on texting … untill she died.

I know this section of I-95 very well and it always amazes me the low standard of driving along it!
It could be something to do with the Connecticut driving test. On arriving in the US from the UK we had to do our tests which consisted of driving around the block then reversing into a massive parking bay.

It’s nothing to do with the CT test as most of the dangerous drivers have NJ plates
90% of the accidents along that stretch are caused by either container or trash haulers or dump trucks, they have no regard for speed limits or safety, quite often as I drive along at 60mph, which is 5 mph over the limit a crazy NJ shed towing a container will shoot by at about 80 ! They sit in the middle lane untill they get a delay then go into the suicide lane without regard for the truck ban in that lane, it the temporary 45 mph limit near Bridgeport they stick in the middle lane even though they are restricted to the right lane only and rip along at about 70 mph and the cops do nothing untill they hit something or kill some poor soul.

Wow! She did well not to drop the phone.

Thats a truely horrendous stretch of road. The I95 from NYC to Newhaven has to be my least favourite stretch of Interstate in the US. I’d rather drive on the M25 5 times a week than go down that part of the I95 once a month!

I think its a mixture of the two. Those NJ countainer trucks are a menace and would be better suited to the latin American roads that most of their steering wheel jockeys no doubt hail from. But it has to be said that the standard of driving in CT is absolutely attrocious, especially on the I95 corridor. In my opinion CT car drivers as a whole are the worst in the US followed closely behind by MA and then NJ.

I must say that both NJ & NYC drivers are worse than CT drivers. Just my view.

Given that the I95 corridor from New Haven to the NY state line is pretty much a commuter belt for NYC itself, they can all be lumped into the same crap car driver category. The eastern seaboard in general is very bad. How I’d love a channel tunnel type train to take me from Portland, ME to just south of Richmond, VA where things start becoming bearable again!

I’d rather eat the dog and sleep on the floor of the train, than drive down that cursed road.

There was another fatal accident at exactly the same spot on Friday

Its a miracle there arent dozens a day on that road with the way the majority ‘drive’.
