Tesco pay rise 2023

Big Truck:
Any youse Tesco GB Union drivers having a vote this month on “new contract” proposals■■?
Another 70p/hr about extra 4.65% my maths. Lol

The previous 7.5%/£500 lump sum got accepted in NI by a massive majority also.

I’ve only heard they were looking to do something with increasing sick pay (well not increasing it rather scrapping the waiting days so you get sick pay from day one) and also a general “looking into various improvements” about the new contract.

Nothing firm though. I’ve got my rude along with driver trainer who is also union tomorrow so I’ll ask him and see if he reveals anything.

Always worth looking at what they want for the extra 70p though…

It’s in connection to “pay parity” V legacy contract drivers.

If my driver trainer looked like Angelina Jolie I’d tell them that I was happy and I’d take that in lieu of a payrise.

Rude along

I’ve corrected the original.

Tbh I’m not a fan of ride alongs and continuous assessment but I enjoy the job, the pay and T&Cs so its a necessary evil and it’s in their time so hey ho.

Truthfully the wages/work combined with the T&Cs you’d be hard pressed to find a better truck driving job across the UK,
you DEFO won’t find a better one across NI for sure!!!

I managed to get in there on agency a month after passing class 1 in March 2022 and haven’t done any other driving work so can’t compare, but I just wish I’d got in there FT when they were last hiring at the depot I work out of!

They may look good these days , but I remember the old tesco drivers saying what a pile of crap these new contracts were , be interesting to see what a old tesco contract would of been in comparison to the news ones now before I’d say how well tesco drivers have done
I doubt tesco changed those contracts to benefit the driver , I’d wager there laughing all the way to the bank over it

BALLIX!!!
The only difference I can see is you have to give months notice now instead of a week!!!
Legacy contract will stay on same money but it’ll be just slight amount more hourly rate and still triple time on PH etc.

5xbasic wage life insurance (about £200k) FREE.
£600month into pension costs YOU £300month.
25% store discount (20% other times) on payday weekend when you combine your colleague card with new Tesco Clubcard+.
No more SCS pay for 3days your paid full wages from the hour you call in sick. (Trial period)
CHEAP colleague phone deals.
PAID breaks on my nightshift premium rate!!!

Hourly rates plus your nightshift/weekend premiums are on the “top” side now for industry and time/half OT after 42.5hrs.
If you’ve OT on weekend premium rates it’s rather NICE to say the least!!!
NEVER had a reduced rest in near 2yrs now!!!

Near EVERYTHING is geared around being a decent place to work for a HGV driver!!!

The legacy deal is almost dead at our place. Majority have moved over to the new contract now. Think we have around 18 drivers left on legacy now and five of those retire within six months.

For me I don’t care what they’re on or what they get or don’t get as it’s not been an option for me so it’s exclusively their call. If they’re happy with it, stay on it, if they want to move, move. No difference to me.

Big Truck, I’ve not heard anything about the removal of the first 3 days sick, got any info on when that was brought in please

It’s on trial from 1st July think ref part of agreed pay deal backdated to then.
Not sure exact date the non self certified 3days sick will start though.

Irs a trial st a limited number of sites mate so if you know nothing of it your place isn’t one. If they see no loft in absence they’ll apparently roll it out across the board

Thanks, be interesting to see how it goes, hopefully it’ll be rolled out across the board.

Do you not get paid for the first 3 days sick?

Dafproblems:
Do you not get paid for the first 3 days sick?

Only SSP for first three days then full pay afterwards.

Just means if you go off fir a day you might aswell go for a week. Every six month period.

Allegedly

Reason I ask is that statutory government ssp doesn’t take effect till day 4 so those 3 days must be funded by Tesco

SSP is only about £94week.
This trial will mean full basic pay paid by Tesco from the time you went sick.
Guess even if you went sick halfway through a shift you’ll still be paid the remainder of shift etc on full pay.

Hopefully employee’s don’t “swing the leg” and start bluffing the single/double sick days again otherwise this trial will end rather abruptly!!!

Majority verdict returned by Union for the 2022 contract “pay parity” negotiations.
Nice wee 4.5% pay rise due now 15th Oct ONTOP of the 7.5% from 1st July.

Just think… If the union is only voting “Majority” here for what seems like a jolly good deal - then how little are other firms going to need to insult the workforce by, before their workers go on all-out strike?

John Lewis - have not had their once-legendary bonus for YEARS now…
Not much good when in addition to that, Britain’s supposedly most-upmarket supermarket is lagging at the BOTTOM of the league in terms of “Driver’s pay and conditions” - at least, as a full timer…
