Tesco Livingston

mike68:
you loose out on overtime and premiums because of the lower hourly rate, an attempt to save money which will almost certainly backfire.

The new drivers will start money will be spent on training D.C.P.C, health and safety probably getting on for £2,000 per driver only for them to leave a few months down the line, this is why the company is where it is, far to much cost cutting.

How will it backfire, I don’t get it, does anybody ever leave tesco? I thought it was the best thing going based on what ‘selbynewcomer’ says:)

rob22888:
What are the odds Tesco and maybe other retailers are looking very closely at their system? Bin off the back door man and give the driver an extra few quid an hour to muck in…sounds pretty good from a business point of view.

It may sound good but remember tesco aren’t that bright:!:

rob22888:
What’s wrong with being asked to drive a rigid? They have loads of little Express stores now that need serving, why should you be exempt from doing them because you have been their yonks?

They are zb motors that’s why:!: It seems more cost effective & less stressful to me to have stores accessible by all vehicles so it’s not costing the business extra in specialist kit that’s parked up half the time doing zb’all.

tesco livingston used to be good to earn the money on, wasnt a bad place to work at. though being asked if i could drive a rigid even though id been there for yonks driving artics left me a bit puzzled

but hey the {zb} got tore out that one

it wasnt being asked if i would go drive a rigid…it was being asked if i had a licence to drive one…from the same gguy who gave me artic keys 2 hours previous. and before you start moaning i did actually go out and drive the rigid, livingston only had 1 rigid when i was there.

Pimpdaddy, I dont claim tesco to be the best job going, its horses for courses, what suits one might not suit another. Working for tesco is like working for most other firms, if you get on with the job you get left alone, if you want to take the ■■■■ then expect to be pulled up about it.

We’ve lost 23 drivers in 18 months and over half of those were lads who gave them self too much of a commute and found something closer to home, others didnt like the job and some left before they got sacked

You must live in a different world to me Selby, most British firms can never just leave you alone to get on with your job, there are measures in place to monitor you at all times & it doesn’t matter what job you do. Can you honestly say you can turn up for work, not clock in, get your keys/job, go do your run & come back without being tracked or being asked ‘any problems, are you ok etc’?

Most places I work the anxiety levels go through the roof in the office if the trackers aren’t working:shock:

Nah of course im not saying I can do that, but its the same as anything in life, youve gotta play the game and stay one step ahead, ive got 3 stores on today and that will be me for the day, im parked up watching burnley v man utd on my ipad now and when I get back ill hand my paper work in And no questions will be asked, but if I was to park up in a lay by for an hour and a half to watch the footy then questions would be asked, just gotta be clever about it

^This.

Theres plenty of driving jobs where you aren’t hassled. Supermarket work or multidrop stuff being a typical example, because there isn’t really anything for them to hassle you about… the job is to go out with stock and come back with empties & it takes as long as it takes. You do sometimes get office staff tasked with ‘debriefing you’ with the tracking system on your return “why were you at this shop for so long” but that process is easily blagged. Most office staff know they are being blagged and thus stopped caring ages ago, so the whole process is futile.

Im desperately looking for that ‘hassle free job’

Theory test on the computer, out on the road for a drive possibly doing a store delivery. Need your head examining wanting to work for them (no offence)

Other Tesco drivers on here seem more than happy.

My fella used go tesco in widnes an most drivers there wasnt happy

Ask yourself this, why are they setting on if it’s that great a place to work? They certainly aren’t rapidly expanding or mega busy. Are they offering the same remuneration package as established employees…

Horses for courses, best to go an see for yourself really, I say its ok but others say its crap, fresh has alot more messing about than with ambient but fresh loads are lighter. Some drivers at depot where I work hate it but you cant please all the people all the time.

On the latter point, I expect not, but I also see it as probably pretty easy & straight forward like other supermarket work. I have worked for Tesco myself, in stores, the whole company is paying the price for years of excessive cost cutting. It’s coming back to bite them in the arse. But, lets be honest, they are still the biggest supermarket by a distance, making a ■■■■ ton of money and plenty of people still shop with them, they are just not quite as busy as before. They are certainly in no danger of going bust or closing shops down, by any stretch.

mjallby:
Tesco in Livingston are looking for drivers, asked to go for interview next week ,said no thanks. The pay wasn’t what I expected Tesco to pay £9.36 per hour guaranteed 42 per week. I thought supermarkets were one of the best payers in the market, am i misguided or is this the norm for supermarkets ?

Can`t see the point of applying for a job and not going for the interview to get ALL correct details about pay and conditions etc
Still somebody will be glad you turned a £393.12 p/w guaranteed job down

Nope the ones that take the ■■■■ aren’t getting pulled up about it all, I still have a contact at Reading who tells me what’s going on…

Yep, I left before I got the sack, but I was still going to leave anyway…
It was a ■■■■ job and a ■■■■ company…
