A woman has died after being hit by a lorry at a Tesco distribution centre.
The employee, who is believed to be 51 years old, became trapped under the vehicle at the supermarket’s site at the Beam Reach Business Park, in Consul Avenue, Rainham.
Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service (LAS) and London Air Ambulance attended in the early hours of this morning, as did police officers and firefighters from the London Fire Brigade.
A spokesman for the LAS said: “We were called at 12.08am and arrived in five minutes.
“Despite extensive efforts to resuscitate the patient, she was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Wayne Platt, the distribution centre’s manager, called the incident “tragic”.
He said: “All of our thoughts are with our colleague’s family during this very difficult time.”
A spokesman for the police said the woman’s next-of-kin have been informed.
There have been no arrests and officers from the serious collision investigation unit are looking into the incident.
