Televisions at Home

I need some help. I need a new TV, my old one has seen better days, the sound has gone and now the colour fades after about an hour, it is not great watching bike racing in Sepia :stuck_out_tongue:

I think I want a 40’’ LED HD without 3D, but I also want it to connect to my laptop for streaming Polish Speedway and ■■■■.

The problem is that so many of the TV sets I have looked at have only HDMI slots and not SVGA

I sort of understand Smart TV, but would just prefer to use my spare laptop to do the business, that has only VGA outlets

How do I decide which is best as I want to buy the set online rather than talk to a spotty oik in Currys

Suggestions please. I think 40’’ is reasonable and I am looking to spend between 4 and 5 hundred quid

As far as I’m aware SVGA is analogue output whilst HDMI is digital, therefore without another box that converts the SVGA analogue signal to a digital signal that cable is useless.

Why make it if it doesn’t work?

My understanding is that these cables can be used to connect an HDMI device such as DVD players, games machines ec’t to an SVGA monitor but cannot be used to connect a computer to a HDMI enabled TV.

I found this out recently when I wanted to connect a computer to a monitor I was thinking of buying that only had an HDMI input, looking at some reviews on Amazon I found that these cables are not suitable for that purpose.

In fact if you go to Amazon you’ll find endless number of reviews from people who have bought an SVGA to HDMI cable hoping to connect a computer to a TV without a converter and had no success.
