J38 Truckstop a mile down the road not a better bet than Tebay!!!
Used to stop for a shower@ Penrith when they were £2 as they are were cleanest in country.
@£2.50 too steep now so just stop@ Annadale Water/Avington or Cairn Lodge as they’re decent and free!!!
I went there a few weeks ago and wasn’t happy at all with the way I was spoken to by the little t*at behind the cafe counter. Went in to order a fry-up to eat in, and didn’t have my mask on. (Entered through the side door, straight into the restaurant. Didn’t use toilets or anything, just wanted food. No signs or anything relating to masks). He asked where my mask was, and I told him I was eating in, so one isn’t needed. He then (incorrectly) tried to regurgitate some drivel about how “it’s a legal requirement to enter any building wearing a mask”. Which is obviously wrong. He thought he was clever, trying to use big words, looking around for people to back him up.
Then a silverback gorilla of a man was waiting behind me. No mask. Did he get the same chelp. Did he bugger. Little coward said sweet FA.
Will avoid as much as possible from now on. No need for people to just be plain rude.
the nodding donkey:
Another vote for Truckhaven over the oach over spill facility for the MSAs next door.
Last time I stopped at Tebay, the place had about 6 or 7 coaches in… when I commented that the Services were just up the road, I got a filthy look, and the staff didnt see interested either. I guess a coach is more profitable than a truck. Oh well, I used the facilities, and had my dinner elswhere.
That is how Poplars ended up to how it is now.
When it first opened and replaced the old Poplars across the road, it was designated purely for trucks, designed on the same concept as a US Truckstop,.that is how it marketed it’s self at the time, and it WAS good.
Then the present owners bought it and ■■■■ ed it up to how it is today…a glorified ■■■■ MSA .

He was right and you were wrong. According to HMG’s guidelines, you are only supposed to remove your face covering when in the seated “eat in” area of a cafe. At other times (such as when going to the counter to order) you are supposed to keep it on.

It was blinding when it first opened, then they had to start making a profit, first it was a couple of coaches, then the car park, then if remember they sold to Moto due to debit
I’ve always been a tebay fan ,I’am here now tonight,Truckhaven is too noisy with trains and change overs ,Lockerbie is too noisy with trailer swap mongs too ,the best showers and food imo is Jenkinsons Penrith and unlike others they stayed fully open from March as usual.
Not good turning up half 9/10pm ish for a changeover due to being late leaving cause the trailer wasn’t loaded yet again. Busy as anything in changeover bays and changeovers wherever you can do one.
Not sure if your aware but we Are currently living through a pandemic and due to this businesses, especially those that have customers entering the premises, are operating on such things as reduced hours and reduced menus. This could explain your issue.
