Suggest you read the rules on here regarding publishing rumour, hearsay and rest room bull manure - if you don’t know for a fact and haven’t got evidential proof then don’t post it.

Ha Ha Ha, your having a laugh with him aren’t you  if that rule was in any way shape or form enforced then the traffic on this forum would reduce by 95% :unamused:

Isn’t TDW run by the brother of the bloke who runs Maritime?

Yes mate, it’s John Williams’ two brothers who now run it. It was set up by their father, Tommy Williams. But as mentioned, they’re not too good at their job. One driver told me that it was £13 a night out, and if you park up with a meal voucher, the value of the voucher came off of the £13 :open_mouth:

Pimpdaddy:
I’m still waiting to hear an up to date pay rate…any takers?

From what I recall when they called me up the wage was £6 odd an hour, overtime at £8 odd after 9 hours and £10 odd on Fridays. Night out for £13.

Job was basically hauling steel from Cardiff to the midlands, over to Ashby to pick up united biscuits and then deliver that to Magor before heading back to the yard.

I politely declined.

the rates are, £312.50 top line £12 nightout plus a £6 meal allowence which you only get if you go into england, overtime which is few and far between is paid at £8 per hour, but like i said before this mob are crap to work for.

trust me dont work for tdw, i did for 9 years left last may coz had enough, the pay is [zb] £6.12 an hour tramping an two pay rises in 9 years, in the old days in ammanford they were a decent company, then they moved to bridgend an they went downhill fast, the office staff are clueless back stabbing nob heads who treat there drivers like [zb], you can be the best driver there an they will still sack you at the drop of a hat, since the old man retired the two idiot sons took over an these two braindead idiots havnt a clue wot there doing an dont seem to care, an unless you like taking steel coils from a to b and doing return loads from tilbury to chepstow on a near daily basis the work is crap, nearly all 1 hitters an a struggle to get any form of overtime, and yes, owens did take some of there contracts one large one an one not so large wont mention any names, alberto culver i think has now gone up to port sunlight which was a hell of a lot of work but has now gone, trust me don`t work for this company coz they will destroy your faith in the job and ruin your heath.

I worked for them for a few years, internationally, from Ammanford. They were great! As soon as Andrew took over they were crap! Andrew was a nice guy but didn’t have a clue about “man management and peoples’ sensibilities”, we had a good team and all worked well together. George Price ran things very well - from our point of view! We all left about the same time, including George! To be fair, we didn’t know the real story and Andrew probably had to modernise the company very quickly. They started to run legal, finished the backhanders and made the company efficient. Unfortunately the “real” drivers had to go. At the time driving was a romantic life style, but times changed and all those companies that didn’t went down.
I raise my hat to Andrew, he has guts! He was hated by the “Old school”, but did what he had to do, probably not always in the straightest and most delicate way, but he did it.
I didn’t like Andrew, but at least he can say “We are still here”, I can name hundreds of companies that can’t say that!
If you want to work for them, first get an interview! They may not want you?
As to Owens, does anyone remember when they were caught nicking steel from their biggest customers, British Steel? Gareth and Eiroff make a good team, one full of st and one full of ps! They will steal any work at any price, even a loss. Don’t believe me? Ask Barrie Williams, Wynford North. . . Mind you, they can also say “We are still here” and I have never heard of anyone not being given a chance at work with Owens! For all their faults they are major employers and should be treated with all the respect they deserve (read that how you will).

Jesus wept, some things never change do they, about 25 years ago i picked a decent lad up thumbing with a tacho card, he’d just jacked in with this mob,the wages he told me about were unbelievable, by the sounds of it they still are.

I finished there in 1989, I didn’t finish because of the wages. I think at that time we earned around £250 a week and £22 a night out and I was paid 7 nights a week, living abroad. The wages were not the best, but OK. They were always paid and never short. I couldn’t fault that side of things. I really liked working there!

I worked for them in 2012, got laid off with 8 or 9 other guys as work was slow. My advice is avoid them, money is as quoted £6.12 pH :open_mouth: with the 2 ot rates and nite out money was, believe it or not £12 :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: !!! The office staff are a bunch of backstabbers who couldn’t care less about anything or anyone except getting the goods delivered, no matter what!!
Sorry but I don’t have a good word to say about them and before anyone says I’m just bitter, I am not, was glad to be out of there tbh!

Maritime man offered 'em 10 million odd apparently a while back & they turned him down, nutters. Disclaimer: this may be hearsay, fantasy island & I well just may be off my meds & talking absolute waffle for my own amusement.

Td Williams was the father of john Williams, the owener of maritime. His brothers run Td Williams and maritime put plenty of work their way, john still has a share of the business.

Worked for em a while back doing euro work which was great. Chris the guy on dispatch knows his job most of the time had my reload details before I left on the trip always managed to take home a tidy wage. Still in contact with a few guys there and they seem happy enough. Watch ya back with the office staff mind

I only ever did Euro work and it was good work and good pay, I finished 25 years ago and if the rate of £6 an hour is correct then I earned more. Then we didn’t count hours, we just got on and did the job, when we needed to blow off steam, we took the time and no-one ever complained or commented! We got the work done! Times change!

If drivers anywhere in the UK are only earning £6 an hour then owners should be ashamed, these are Polish wages! More fool for the idiots taking jobs at that price.

I live in France and only work for a few months a year - I take home around 2,OOO Euros a month for day work (35 - 40 hour a week). some jobs are harder than others and away Mon. to Fri pays 2,700 Euros plus 10% and 2 1/2 days holiday per month worked. My wage is typical, I think?

The job is what you make it! Don’t like, don’t do!

I forgot what the day rate was on Euro but always had money in the bank and If you want to get back Chris would get ya back. You’re right there Dai don’t like it don’t do it

I have been with TD Williams now for the last 3 months, and I haven’t had any problems with money or work,
they don’t push you and if they did I just say NO I can’t do that no problems and they are not constantly on the telephone to you asking were you are, they leave you alone to get on with the job, and if your going to be late you tell them and they then inform the customer, the work is a bit of Stobarts, Maritime and there own. so no problems with work ? ? ?

Money wise it’s not bad considering it’s a Welsh company ( Welsh cost of living is much lower than English ) hence the pay, the night out money is £26.00 per night ? not what’s been said on here, we get £77.00 for the first nine and half hrs, then £12.00 per hr after that, we also have parking accounts around the UK,
as for working I get 13hrs to 15 hrs a day on my weeks work, I also have the option to work an extra shift (6th day) my shift is Thursday to Monday and the money is not bad for me,

But sadly I know what some drivers are like, being an ex owner driver with a few trucks, (all my trucks were a few years old 07reg, I bought them in 09, all had a fridge and a microwave fitted and because I didn’t provide a sat-nav only low bridge maps most drivers didn’t want the job) they will never be happy and they always start to moan to other drivers to start a conversation, always thinking the grass is greener on the other side, jealous of you if you earn an extra 50p an hour, jealous of they workmates because they finish early, and shock and horror some drivers do exaggerate there pay and conditions why I don’t know, but thankfully not all drivers are like that which I call old school just get on with it, and we do have five ex Downton drivers starting with us this month so we can’t be all that bad ? ? ?

And it’s better than being on the driving agencies promising you the earth when they have no work, when you join you get a fullweeks work, then the telephone goes dead you get a day here and a night they and very sort notice work when you have been up all day for a night shift,

So if you don’t like a company your working for, just move on to another, but there are plenty out they offering silly money £100 per 12hrs shift which you end up doing 14hrs - 15hrs and on your back. and yes there is plenty of work in Avonmouth, Co op, Lidl, Asda and Tesco, but WHY can’t they get drivers ! ! ! and don’t forget you pay for the Bridge every single day and fuel, it all adds up about £118.40 a week out of your wages for 6 days/nights which is dead money and you can’t never get back, and then you get the Old Bridge shut for high winds or ghost repairs ( no sign of workmen working ) on nights and weekends,

So yes working for TD Williams in Bridgend for me is not as bad as mention on this website,
but then again I not as sensitive as a wallflower.

That sounds more like the truth. I worked for Tommy and it wasn’t the best pay, but OK. I was never pushed and we were a good crew. Frankly, I liked working there. I wasn’t unhappy to leave, as I could see that, when Andrew arrived, the old days, right or wrong, were gone. There were a lot of boys who had never worked anywhere else. Drivers are a pain in the “Derriere” always moaning, the glass half empty!
I used to see Ralph Davies drivers running around like headless chickens, with pushed in glass on the 142, targeted rest stops and bribe money.(I hear that he has gone legal now). To all those that moan get in touch with Dr. Who and come and work with us, or Ralph, for a week or two!
Just get on with the job! Don’t like it? Change! Just shut up! I have just finished a 12 hour trot and I think it is the best job I have ever had! Driving was never a job for weak wimps! You earn respect in this job!
Just to put things clear;
You were not a real driver until you:
Were divorced, could wash with a cupfull of water, not Sh*t for a week, and double your wages with backhanders!
I think the worst thing they ever did was to put sychronised gears into trucks - this opened the job up to any young pup, or puppess, that could point a truck in the right direction!

I got an 18sp Eaton Fuller Dai wanna swap lol

The last couple of weeks I have been pointing a Renault Premium, I’d swap with a horse & cart to get rid of it. I have now been given a DAF CF, another load of crap, but better. From the 1/9 I will be driving a desk! Much better, I hope?
You probably have a bit of comfort wrapped around that fine gearbox?
