Tarmac tippers

A few of the o/d from stainton quarry near maltby.

I spent hours in this one keeping my mate company afraid he passed away in feb on his way to work in his car,RIP GRAHAM.

A couple of amberhills for you bonkey.

Holme hall quarry today.I was told on friday that marshalls had made the drivers redundant but saw these two today.

Hiya Bonkey

Great thread and some cracking photo’s

A couple of interesting pics for you. 1st one is resurfacing the Fosseway in the Stow area. 2nd one is in the Barnwood area of Gloucester. The ERF was 3 days old and it was the first chance to have a good nose around - all of a sudden, through the lights came the old Albion, still working!

Excellent working pics there mate.

Do you have any more of the ERF, it looks quite smart.

Cheers
Mark

Hi Mark

I’ll have a dig about and see what I’ve got. She was a very smart wagon and Pete used to keep her immaculate. Trouble was she was only an E8 which wasn’t the best for the Cotswolds! :open_mouth:

Sorry, I don’t have any more of the E8 and only a couple more ‘action’ shots

Both taken on the M40 between Wheatley and Bicester when it was under construction. We had 17 miles to surface, shared with Foster Yeoman and were there every day from January until September.

1st pic shows one of L Cam and sons cleaning off after tipping and my mate George taking his sheet off…

2nd pic shows another mate, Bondy, tipping on the machine. 1500 tonnes a day for 9 months, and 2 hours travelling to site, is quite some job…I don’t think we’ll see the like again, more’s the pity!

Always good to see some working shots mate.

I agree that the E8 ERFs were a bit lacking on the power front.

We had a bloke up this way who had his E10 with ■■■■■■■ 325, badged as an E8 as he reckoned that it would be safe from theives.

Cheers
Mark

thanks mick

hi all,
firstly can i thank you all for these wonderfull tarmac roadstone pictures , i’ve been searching for quite sometime for old pictures of tarmac trucks/ vans / blaw knox’s / chippers , rollers , these hve brought back so many childhood memories when i used to go to work with me dad who worked for tarmac roadstone southern , he was a machine driver / roller driver from late 60’s till the eighties , ran out of greenwich tarmac yard ( old amasco’s ) , snodland / shepperton yards too , still in the game but now patching with me at he’s side ,once again thank you

No problem Steve, glad we could be of assistance.

BTW, have you any pics of the lorries etc back in the day? The modern stuff is crap by comparison I reckon.

Failing that, tales or stories from way back when would be good!
