The sand division had some like that John, possibly to carry dry sand, also some of the Limestone product’s needed a larger body to get the weight on due to the light weight of the material. We had three Sed Ak 400’s on Tilcon with higher bodies so that they could backload coal from Kent to Newcastle on Tyne.

Hey TARMAC mate, I don’t suppose you have a pic of Jason Craze’s Volvo?
A friend of mine would like one and I’d be grateful if you could get one please.

Few more from me:
this tarmac truck was owned from new by bob webb from bayston hill quarry ,sold to manny at ettingshall
This is at Renishaw works shortly before it went to Lafarge.
The next three were taken when I was at Dene quarry on a working day in 1997 stood near the weighbridge on a public path.
Apparently a few of the drivers had taken umbrage at me taking photos and had called the assistant quarry foreman to ‘sort me out’.
I explained my actions but it cut no ice. I had to give a roll of film over that contained some nice pics so the ones I have here are from just after he left me warning of calling the police. All this despite me taking an album of earlier photos to prove I wasn’t a wrong 'un!
(Funny thing were, I used to go on a saturday or sunday afternoon ‘out of hours’ and happily snapped away. Once encountered a security guard but after an explanation that he was happy with, I was given free reign!)
This was the old Waterswallows quarry in it’s latter days before closure. The site is now the main base of Dinky Lomas.
PS. Please ignore the ‘line’ running through the photos - It’s from my scanner and I haven’t a clue what’s up with it!
This one sneaks in due to the lorry to the side of the tanker.
Though I’m unsure if it’s a Reiver or an F7.
TARMAC:
This one was the “Daddy” of Bayston Hill trucks in its day, T4TPT was seen in this condition at all times, and usually with T4AKP following in close convoy, equally as clean…this was the last in the line of Tony Pugh’s trucks, this one being new on a Y plate, circa 2002. It was re registered as T12TAW later with its second owner, and then back to its original Y plate with its third owner, still working out of Bayston Hill…
this was my last truck before i finnished,do miss some of the lads but not the ■■■■ that goes with the contracts.
From 1987, the late John Austin’s Truck was one of the best trucks working out of Bayston Hill Quarry in Shropshire, these two pictures kindly lent to me are, one’s from Silverstone, where the trucks were on display for the Truck Grandprix, and they also had a parade lap of the circuit…the other in 1988 at a local truck show
great guy to work with had a few beers at truck shows and nights out, went to hays in middlesex in the 80s he had a SA with 200 gardner i had F7 following him i got about 12 to the gallon it was so bloody slow, good times tho, rip.
johno1:
 KNT…Thats the 8 legger I was on when we were doing the M6 (J14) on nights.
That pic must have been around the time Tony had just started running contract trucks.
I also drove the 8 legger Leyland Constructor he had, I think it was Pete Arnolds old motor that Tubbs drove when Tony first got his Tarmac contract.
Ah, happy days.
hi john hope your well, great photos buy the way the constructor was tony luthers ,they were some great times but i think we would be locked up these days doing some of the things we used to do going through wolverhamton evey night.tony.

Look back earlier in the thread mate and there’s a pic of the Sed Ak.
Can I ask if you had any khaki wagons and if so what type?

TARMAC:
Another from the past…Berwyn Granite was a joint venture between Johnston / Tarmac from 1966, that quarried Leaton Quarry near Telford, Tarmac administered the Owner Driver Scheme, thats why the familiar livery, this was one of Bayston Hill’s O/D Lorries passed onto a Berwyn O/D, picture taken at Midland Festival of Transport, Weston Park, 1999 ish. Ennstone eventually bought Tarmac’s share, then owned 100%, before their problems of last year, and now its owned by Breedon Agregates (who have some equally nice looking lorries)
this truck was bonnie roberts 1st new truck he is a still a tarmac 0/d , good luck to him, worked with him for many years hard working lad, ask him about any bayston boys who helped on is way no bad words would be said.

Hello Tone, how the hell are you matey?
Long time no see, hope you & yours are all well.
Im ok, still doing a bit of trucking but not as often as Id like, Im more into my cars these days.
Dont know why I said the eight legger constructor was Petes old one, of course it was Tony Luthers, daft sod I am.
You are right about getting banged up these days for the things we used to get up to back then, great times though.
The late night cruises around Wolverhampton was an eye opener, bloody good fun too.
Ive been trying to find a pic of my old 4 wheeler khaki green Leyland (Johnboys Rocket) I bought off Humpy, but I cant find any.
Anyways, musnt clog up the thread, all the best matey & I’ll catch up with you soon.
Its sort of on topic, but not khaki green ! Photographed at Bicester, this week, just off the A41, one of MQP’s haulier’s Dennis Moulding’s Volvo’s driven by son Tom. For those not in the know, Midland Quarry Products is a JV between Tarmac and Hanson in the Midlands, running Cliffe Hill Quarry amongst others…
Another from the past…Alan Pritchard’s Volvo, from Bayston Hill when it was new…Tony will correct me, but this must be about about 8 years old may be ? Did this one not become Tony Woodman’s ? (Look forward to those pixx !)
