I sat my HazPack with you maybe 20 years ago Alan, still sticks in the mind how well presented the course was! Glad to hear you’re still around and doing well
Hi jj28 I had been on a few Hazchem then ADR courses with Alan Walker. He asked us to collect our hazchem certificates out of a small room filled with ammonia at Rothwell then had taken our photographs. My eyes were watering and I looked like the missing link! I remember the early days Smith and Robinson had a resident mad Professor showing us experiments. He had a small Calor gas bottle blowing up a reinforced balloon. Next to it he had a Bunsen burner, as the balloon filled up with gas it got closer to the Bunsen burner. I stayed awake for the rest of the course, the polystyrene roof tiles dropped after the explosion.

I think the mad professor followed Alan to LPG at Nab Lane. Or else he found another one in residence

hi a Wheelnut, I was offered a job at LPG, was it Batley or there abouts, to work out of Shell Carrington or Ciba Giegy Based at Trafford Park. This was round about the mid 70s. The traffic manager was Kieth Smith. These were contracts that they were expecting to get but never happened. Its seemed a good out fit. and brand new Volvo 86s

Not a trucking post, well not really but a friend of mine is chasing up his family tree.
I wondered if Bob Edge could be a relative, they share a surname, and shared the same area, or his grandfather did. Does anyone have any ideas or recent news about Bob?

There was a poster on here recently who worked at Humko who posted a few photos, he also worked with a friend of mine called Dave Healey.
Here it is;
kevmorrow:
I left MAT 1975 and started work for Humko Tankers (KRAFT) Trafford Park.
Les Bickerdyke transport manager had a heart attack and finished at MAT. He started as weighbridge operative at HUMKO about 1982. Every time I weighed my tanker off, we talked about the old days at stories of MAT Transport.

Hi Wheelnut. That was me. Dave Healey used to drive for a subby, then I believe he started with TEO (ex Humko) after I moved away. Akatos and Hutchinson owned Pura Food Blackwall, Britannia Lard Birkenhead. 1982 they bought out, Humko (Kraft ex Southern Oil) Peerless refining Dunning Bridge road Liverpool, CEO Liverpool. They renamed Humko, Centrol Edible Oil then changed to Trafford Edible Oil (TEO). Pura Foods had their own Transport called PLTranstore. The only drivers to keep their jobs were David Boyd, Hughie Smith, Jimmy Brown, and Johnny Mack. All drove PLTranstore tankers. Only 4 others came back on a contract to work out of TEO, with Smith and Robinson. They were me Kev Morrow, Phil Keep ex Leathers driver, Stan Smith, and Ian Greenhalch. All the others were made redundant. 1984 we were made redundant from S&R. I moved to Kings Lynn Norfolk late 1984.
Most of the old Humko Drivers came from Reliance Tankers Altricham, Corn Products CPC (Ceristar) Trafford Park, and Smith and Robinsons Urmston depot.

Hi all, I have come into this thread rather late but I used to work for Thomas Allen/P&O Ellesmere Port for 10 years, 1990-2000, then when they disappeared went to RTS/Linkman/TDG at Runcorn (hated it there) and finished my driving career in UK at Norman Lewis, 2005-2007 before moving to Canada.
Anyone on here from those companies at the same time I was?
Thats the 1 John,so its not the original Leathers but it still looks good.As a kid i remember Colin Connolly used to park the original up from time to time near where i lived.John Tweedie as a Marathon for sale in Heritage Commercials with the TL12 in it,do you know if he still owns the V8?

Now Les, the last time i done Crawfords i knocked the lamp post over on the lawn next to the gravity tanks.George wern’t very happy about that eh
Nice one Vic, I remember you getting that truck, Linkmans had a Foden 3000 urban at the time I think but I can’t remember the drivers name.I did the pier tanks one day with a 40 tonner, half the load for 4 lane ends but do the pier first, only problem was the quayside was shut for resurfacing etc, so down the Kyber pass the wrong way and back up half loaded, and of course it was peeing down. A fun day out. Anyway if you are going to post photos of youngsters posing with their trucks what about this one, taken in 1979 the truck was Harold Woods, (Tankfrieght).
Hi Vic do you remember any of these from Stillers.
