tanker companies

Here’s a couple of me tipping an RTT tank (working for Hoyers) in 1981 at Ellsmere Port (I think).

Chris Webb:
Where was the photo of the Den Bosch Merc on the rola train taken Malc? I’ve seen a lot of those trains in Switzerland.Bustio Arsizio was a destination in Italia via the Gotthard line I think, via Lugano and Chiasso.

Freiburg to Milan Chris, it was a regular route for us too with Norman Lewis

These were taken at Lugano Paradiso in 2000…You may know Reitter from Hedelsheim Malc? There was another tanker company from Germany that used the Rollende Landstrasse a lot,but I can’t remember the name.Hoyer,Bertschi and Rinnen put unaccompanied tanks through the Gotthard and also from Basel through the Lotschberg tunnel to Domodossola and beyond.

Well there is a tanker on the second photo… Do you have any more of the rolas?

A couple more Intermol shots, the first one look familiar,

A couple of pics of J Barretts from Oldham.ERF Pennine Prince C717FOD still working on a daily basis.

What a great load of photos 737. I was never on that sort of job when on tankers but I do remember - and I think I’m right - Manchester Tankers running to a big place in Pitsea,Essex with waste in the 70s.Effluent Services was another, from Macclesfield IIRC.A lot of tankers drivers would have forgotten about all the waste crap that had to be disposed of,wonder what the H and S is like now on that sort of work.

Chris

I loved that job and did waste tankers for 6 years. All I wanted to do when I left school was drive trucks.

I did a little bit for J & H Hinchliffes at Bury on ropes and sheets, then 3 years at Global, 3 years at Stobarts, 3 years at Qualitech. After that, I went to work at Manchester Airport as an aircraft refueller for 9 years.

I remember Effluents from Macc and I sometimes went to Pitsea

You would be amazed at the ammount of hazardous waste that is carried on the road and where it all comes from.

stanfield, yep its still going, spotted it at trafford park wash june this year…

I would guess that the MAN Airport was the best paying job? Hinchcliffes ran in a red? livery I think. Was is it RDC work for ESL,maybe out of Middleton?

I was offered a start with Colt Industrial in Hull but I turned it down, one of my reasons was 2 or 3
weeks away with a second man and sleeping in the same cab after digging out waste lagoons all day, although the money offered was very good.

Chris

The money on the waste was far better than the airport, but I loved planes so I was more happier. The downside at the airport was working a 4 on 2 off shift pattern for 9 years. I worked 7 out of 9 Christmas days.

The only down side with the waste tanker jobs was is I was away 5 nights a week. Saying that, the night out money was very good. Non of that 2 man sleeping in one cab stuff though.

I have done loads of digging and squeegying out of tanks LOL

Yes Hinchliffes ran in red. The ESL was based in Warrington back between 93 and 96
