ha ha!, who was your dad mate?, my dad’s called ernie williams or as his cb handle was back in castrol days ‘the ayatollah’, have some fond memories of trips down to the A41 as a kid. i came up through the back roads from swansea on tuesday stopping at the midway for my lunch…good times
Well I never, the famous Ernie Williams is your Dad eh?. I know y’ Dad very well, I remember him from his Castrol days, and later I even worked with him at P&O. Used to travel with him and Trevor Cavell when we were on that Yorkshire Water job, we stayed in digs in Whitwood, some good times up there. My Dad was Noel Hughes, he was the drivers steward at Castrol, until he just dropped dead at 46 with a brain haemorrage. Give my best regards to y’ Dad Pete.

Castrol had a depot at Hyde years ago and their second depot was round the back of the Dog and Partridge on Sheffield side of Woodhead.
Fletcher Miller
Alma Works
Furnace Street
Flowery Field
Hyde
I remember it well as Castrol Hyde. I have mentioned the square wooden tanks upstairs and the smells. It probably fuelled my addiction for Castrol R

Done that run a couple of times myself plus used to go there with ‘base oil’ from Purfleet when it was open, if I had a pound for every hour I was on the gantry in the cold holding the ‘dead man’ I could afford a good night out.

gone off the page so:
I worked out of S&Rs Trafford Park depot. I had taken S&R badges off my overalls as mementoes. Dodgy photo on my Hazchem course Rothwell 1984. Searching on my hands and knees for the Hazchem card insert in gas chamber (gas chamber was office) Alan the ADR tutor ex driver ripped our BA masks off in the ammonia filled room, minutes later he said something like smile your on Alan’s camera. It has taken nearly 30 years to pluck up courage to name and shame him! Five years later I went on a refresher course at Stanningley and Alan was running the course and we had a good laugh at my old hazchem cert.

Alan Walker pops in here occasionally Kev.
It was a great week training with him. Respect!
Hehehe, I did that course many years ago, and the refresher at Stanningley. Bit of a lad was Alan, good at his job and always good for a laugh.

So was this the same thing then, cant remember having a photo ID, held at ICI castna Kelna, We did fire fighting, BA in a 20ft box with Amonia and smoke etc, so assume was another independantly certified version of The same hazchem course.
