French A.P. Merc’ in Didcot today, pulling 1 of our old Brit’ trailers, this 1 still has its old Didcot fleet number on the rear of the tank L814, my trailer was L816. These were sent over to A.P. France cos they couldn’t be loaded up to 44 tons.
I notice a Wincanton unit next to the French Merc.,so they are still doing a bit for AP then Chris ?
Hi Chris, yes they still have the A.P. bulk contract at mo’, they have had it now for about 16 years, I was on A.P. when they switched us over, Wincanton certainly seem to bring out different reactions from drivers etc that’s for sure . Chris

Were you featured in one of the magazines a few years back while working from Didcot? I was impressed with the article, had already applied for the job and got the application forms. Then I left Banbury and moved to Derby
Hi Wheel Nut,
Yes that was me, I wrote a letter into Trucking International & it was published as Letter of the Month, I exchanged a few E-mails with Steev Hayes the Editor & said he might find it interesting to come out with me for the day, so I had a word with my Bosses & they were very keen to do it. Steev is a sound bloke & we had a interesting day out, I learned a lot about the ins/out of running a Truck mag’ from him too that day. He said he jumped at the chance for a day out with an ADR tanker, because although tanker firms will allow them to take pictures of their tankers they are very reluctant to allow journalists etc to actually go out in them. Cryoservice were over the moon with the article & the way it was written, & 6 pages was more than we thought we’d get.
Regards Chris

Hi dieseldave,
An interesting subject, good lighting & a good camera! No skill from me I can gaurantee you that
Regards Chris
Hi adr,
An interesting subject indeed, but my interest is because I’m an ADR instructor and DGSA, after having been a driver.
AFAIK, hydrogen is normally carried on a battery vehicle or a tube trailer, so that’s why I spotted that the trailers in your pics are quite special. There can’t be many of those trailers around, especially new ones.
The HIN of “223” was the giveaway to an ADR anorak like me!!
Hi dieseldave,
I have been told they have built 3 of them, with that price tag you certainly wouldn’t order a spare without good cause, even with Air Products turnover, that last year was 15 Billion . The Hydrogen will be coming into Didcot in Liquid form from Holland, & being delivered from Didcot as gas.
JohnyRose63:
anyone remember hydrogen supplies from trafford park dont know what happened to them ran red & white f10s.
They were almost as heavy empty as they were loaded John. Did they get taken over by Air Products?

You will remember the lads swapping trailers in Anglia et al.
It seemed like a dead man shoes type of job.
I worked in Trafford Park for many haulage companies since the 1960s to mid 1980s. I remember Air products used to change over two Hydrogen cylinder trailers at Humko Westinghouse Road edible oils refinery. There were two regular drivers from Air products from Crewe depot and drove Volvo F88s. Don and? Hydrogen Supplies Trafford Park was desperate for the Humko contract as the depot was in the old ex BRS then Ex Calor gas yard at Richmond road quarter of a mile away.
