gettin-on:
Just been chatting to someone who had similar from Rha today
Also that a hotel is not allowed either and only Belgium locals can take a 45 hr on their soil
I can’t see the getting away with that one for long, nothing in the legislation says that a driver has to spend a full weekly rest in their own Country. I think it will quickly challenged in the courts for not allowing fair competition.
Of course the biggest joke is that the total miss match in economies between Western Europe and the Former Communist Blok states also doesn’t allow fair competition, but it benefits big business and the share holders of those companies, and of course those who make the rules are normally either share holders, business owners or in the pockets of big business.

BELGIUM - WEEKEND REST IN THE CAB TO BE PROHIBITED
FEBETRA, the Belgian transport trade association, has advised that, with effect from 21 June, the authorities intend to enforce a prohibition whereby drivers may not take their normal weekend rest in the cab. Fines may be imposed for non-compliance.
Our firm’s received similar info from our regional trade association.
It also states that the French are keen to jump onto this particular bandwagon with, quelle surprise, possible prison sentences alongside draconian fines being under consideration. This is presumably aimed at the vehicle operators and not poor Bogdan.
It could be that the authorities or politicians under pressure from the trade associations are sick of East European trucks parked up for on services and any other piece of waste land for days on end and have decided to use this legislation to start doing something about it.
I make you right Muckles. At some point it will be challenged in a court and depending on the outcome either scrapped or we will find other EU countries enforcing it. My money is on it being thrown out because everyone wants cheap transport apart from the haulier.
It could also be that the surge of right wing support throughout western Europe has persuaded the power brokers that we need some kind of employment protection against cheap labour. I very much hope so anyhow.

I wouldn’t trust any right wing movement to improve employment rights, but you’re right it’s not only in the UK where the recent Euro election resulted in a large euro sceptic vote.
Perhaps I should revise right wing to euro sceptic !!

No I think you’re right with Right Wing, they’ve seen an opportunity to gain support because main stream politicians aren’t listening to the normal working person.
About the size of it. But hey whilst I don’t want to see right wing fascists all over europe, if it makes the usual deaf political leaders listen …

Pretty much agree with you there.

Belgium may ban normal weekend rests in the cab
FEBETRA, the Belgian Road Hauliers Association, has advised that, with effect from 21 June, Belgium intends to enforce a prohibition whereby drivers may not take normal weekend rest in the cab on Belgian soil. Any driver taking a normal weekend rest in the cab will face a fine of up to €1800.
FEBETRA states that the Belgian Government is allowed to enforce this through its interpretation of Regulation 561/2006 Article 8, which allows this facility for reduced weekly rest but not normal rest. Thus, in the Belgian Government’s current view, if the law does not allow something, it is prohibited.
With less than a week to go to the start of this prohibition, and with existing contracts in place, some may be affected by this action, especially if using sub-contractors. Furthermore, taking a normal weekly rest in France also leaves drivers more vulnerable to clandestine attacks.
The EU institutions have been informed of this problem and we hope for an update in the next few days. In the meantime members may wish to review any contracts they are about to make or review those that are in place, and where a weekend rest may be expected to take place in Belgium.

FEBETRA, the Belgian transport trade association, has advised that, with effect from 21 June, the authorities intend to enforce a prohibition whereby drivers may not take their normal weekend rest in the cab. Fines may be imposed for non-compliance.
The Belgian Government believes that it can enforce this new rule thanks to its interpretation of Regulation 561/2006 Article 8.8, which allows this facility for reduced weekly rest but not normal rest.
The IRU has raised concerns with this new prohibition with EU authorities in Brussels and we will pass on any further information received to international members.

What if you driven from the Ukraine,Turkey,Greece,Romania or Bulgaria and you are due 45 hours off in the country where you not allowed to sleep in the cab, where are all the drivers going to stay then
A matress and bunk bed inside the trailer ?
Hotels or campsites ? Their bosses will not pay for that. The farmers could let them stay on their farm.
