Take your butties to Tesco

Just tell them they’ll get there delivery later when you’ve had your dinner and drive out.

Go to your local Tesco store, let them ring up an enormous trolley load and then demand to see the shop manager and inform him in front of the rest of the customers your reasons exactly why he can put everything back on the shelf again, goodbye.

kjw21:
I’m wondering if tesco’s drop in profits is due to the amount of people they are ■■■■■■■ off.
Think about it - they treat farmers, suppliers, contractors and of course us like [zb].

I keep saying this but get accused of all sorts, being jealous, not knowing what a joy it is to be working for them etc. Bottom line is tesco is ■■■■, unless people start to boycott it will only get worse & their profits prove I’m not the only one who thinks this way… What’s next then, no contractors can use toilets, you won’t be offered seating so you have to stand for the duration of your delivery, what…? :imp:

Simples.Every driver fill the trolley.Get it scanned.Dump the trolley at the till and do not pay.Walk out.

Nice idea, funny too, in a childish way (which makes it even funnier:D) but it’s not going to solve the problem in the canteens, it’ll certainly ■■■■ the store manager off though.

I’d love to try that…

+1 and a friend for each till thats open doing the same at the same time

The response from Tesco’s is

All our distribution centres offer facilities for visiting drivers to use whilst their lorries are being unloaded, including toilets, a seating area with a television and vending machines selling hot and cold refreshments. Our colleague restaurants are often located some distance from the unloading bays, so we try to make sure visiting drivers have everything they need within Goods In.”

I did push them as to why they have now denied access to the canteens- their answer is that due to H&S they cant have you guys walking through the warehouse to access the canteens :open_mouth: :unamused:

I don’t find their response adequate or that they have even attempted to answer the original question- they claim that the huge majority of drivers spend less than 1 hour on their sites - so the level of welfare provision is adequate

what I need from you guys now is images from substandard waiting rooms and time on site over an hour if this is to go anywhere. if you don’t provide me with the proof then this will be dismissed by them.

I trust that we are going to see some adverse publicity about this in the trade press.

If I get the evidence, not just hearsay then yes, so photo’s guys, without that we don’t have a lot to go on

Another one to add to the list - I collected at a DHL-run site in Thurrock today - on the wall by the goods in door was a printout of an email sent by one of their managers to on-site staff, telling them that under no circumstances are they to permit any driver to have access to vending machines, if any driver asks for a drink they are to be told NO, and directed to the local garage which is a 1/4 mile up the road. They are also not permitted any access to the warehouse toilets, and a portaloo has been installed in a corner of the yard, which will be checked for cleanliness once a week (lovely when the weather warms up a bit!). Apparently this was due to a recent security breach (presumably some driver managed to get a drink from the vending machine free?!)

Less than an hr on site? Pull the other one. Do these people really live in a fantasy land or are they incompetent?

Time on site 12/06/13 tesco fradley 1 hr 45 mins

And tbh that’s one of the quickest tesco tips I have ever had in 7/8 yrs.

I would take in an asda carry bag full off goodies sandwich asdas own drink(tastes off ■■■■■ but makes the point)maybe some asdas own crisps etc and sit in the canteen eating it

I think you will find under environmental health laws this company is breaking the law. All visiting drivers are to be supplied with a TOILET - WASHING FACILITIES ie hand basin. and a REFRESHMENT ie coffee machine or kettle, and after 4 and a half hours waiting time a hot meal. Check t out, but I think im right

No need to check it out - I know you’re right about the toilets, washing facilities & drink - didn’t know about the hot food part. Maybe T&D could take on a campaign to investigate these sort of places, where we can anonymously notify them?

I know it’s not a DHL-wide rule, as I often go into their mail centre at Langley, and have no problems with the welfare provisions there, or the staff - it’s usually one of the better places that I go to.

DHL at Nottingham near to Queens Hospital is the same, you can’t access the canteen area or toilets as the doors are opend by a card. To use the toilet you have to walk back down to the security hut where there is a toilet block
